It seems that the CAVs cann't wait and is about to make offer to JVG. So we'd better hurry. Otherwise, if brown decides to go to LA, we will be screwed.
There is no rush - we can wait until all of the other vacancies are full, and then the last coach left standing will have to take our job for peanuts.
I'd give it before the end of next week. Dawson and Alexander shouldn't pull the trigger too soon and make it look like it was master-planned from the very beginning (which would make Rudy T look less wanted as he already was), especially with a tacit agreement with Brown (which I'm sure they made in the interview) that they'd like to give it a week or two. The Rockets realize they need a sort of mourning period after Rudy T's emotional departure. Notice how Dawson is the only one repeatedly stating how many options the team has for coach? That'd be a PR blunder only if you weren't confident you were going to land the one you really wanted. I mean, has Brown even interviewed anywhere else? I'm actually surprised he hasn't - or he has no reason to walk on eggshells like the Rockets do.
Thats not exactly true..the way Les Alexander put it was "we are going to hit the ground running". The Rockets problem is that Brown is not sure he wants to come here and Van Gundy will probably take the Cav job ..if they offer him a job before the Rockets do.
I don't think CD & Les would care much about mourning period. They're already talking with major candidates as soon as they can. It's a good sign for the team, the sooner we have the coaching decision settled, the better plan we can have for next season. Although I am still shock that Rudy is gone, I would much rather have Larry Brown than Rudy as coach.
First round of interviews I assume ends tonight with the Paul Silas meeting later today, and then this weekend its on!
Well, Alexander and Dawson have made it very clear to the press that they're not in a rush and will take their time - no matter how anxious the fans on this board get.
don't the draft camps open in like a week? shouldn't we have our guy by the time every other team is scouting potential picks?
Why? We have a 15th pick rotting on the bench, what makes you think a 2nd rounder would get any attention?
The timing on this thing is all about Brown, and of course, the Rockets nor anyone else will ever admit it. Van Gundy or Dunleavy would be a change from Rudy, but I'd prefer Silas. It doesn't matter. There's not a team out there that wants to look bad, and once Brown lets it be known where he's going, probably another team will announce the hiring of a coach before the story even hits the press - my guess is Van Gundy in Cleveland. But 3 or 4 others will be announced within 2 days of Brown's signing. The Rockets can wait until they know Brown's not coming here, but I don't think Brown can put off the decision because too many people he knows and likely respects are hung out in limbo. From the Rockets perspective: 2nd round pick, no big deals likely, they can just wait. Probably Van Gundy, Silas and Dunleavy want to be in Houston and have to wait. The rest will have to wait on those franchises who want either Brown, Van Gundy or Silas (the vibe about Dunleavy here I just don't think is as strong everywhere else). I say Brown announes his decision publically Monday, and we'll hear about either Van Gundy or Silas "accepting a deal" this weekend. The Rockets anounce a deal when they are good and ready, unless it's Brown.
Hopefully the Rockets will make up their minds soon. This waiting is killing me! Maybe we will hear something on Monday. Enough with the interviews Rockets, just pick someone!
How do you know it isn't the other way around? It sure looks that way. How long will Brown wait for OUR decision? I'm hoping that we sign the guy ASAP. And I bet it's our decision to make. The timing of his resignation and all we have to offer make it seem like it.
