How long would it take this crew-- roughly the TOP 12 picks of this year's NBA draft to win an NBA crown? PG - Jason Williams, Dejuan Wagner SG - Caron Butler, Kareem Rush SF - Qyntel Woods, Jarrod Jefferies PF - Drew Gooden, Chris Wilcox, Amare Stoudarmire C- Curtis Borchardt, Chris Marcus, Melvin Ely
Both... There are 2 types of players in the NBA. Ones that need the ball to score, and ones that function well away from the ball to get open shots. Too many guys who can only function well with the ball in their hands. The offense would be like the Rockets, where one guy has the ball, and the rest watch.
They could be one of the best overall teams with the talent they have, but most likely would turn into the lil' Blazers.
All players need the ball to score. What you have here is a false dichotomy. The "need the ball" type people are actually "want the ball" type people. They don't all get it. But, as with all good basketball players, they need to find a way to contribute to get time on the floor. Should these guys really be going in the lottery if their only contribution to a team is to score baskets? Can none of them pass, rebound, block shots, defend? If Woods or whichever one we covet can do nothing but create his own shot, I'd like the Rocks to trade their #5 for a vet, because I know there are more multi-faceted guys already in the league. And, giddyup, where the hell is Yao Ming?
He's in China, I think. I just went with the American kids. Look, if Shaq can't make the Olympic Team coming out of college, Ming's off this one....
