WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The average one-way commute in the United States is just over 26 minutes, but the longest commute takes three hours, the government said on Monday. The Transportation Department surveyed more than 1,000 people in August about their commuting times. The survey found that 94 percent spent an hour or less going to work. The shortest commute was one minute, while the longest was three hours. My commute is about 25 minutes each way via car. Nice views, waterfalls, rocks, streams - not much real traffic. In Houston, it took me 1 hour and 20 minutes each way if it didn't rain or there wasn't a wreck - which as we know is rare. What is your commute like?
about 30 minutes to work about 40 minutes to home in the afternoon... but all that changes in about a month when it will be 2-3 minutes or less both ways! woo hoo!!!
Depends on if I walk, bike or drive - which depends on my schedule & the weather. It's a .8 mile trip.
It used to be 10 minutes in and 15 out. Then I moved and now it is about 20 minutes in and 30 out. I need to change jobs to shorten my commute.
My commute is 6.5 miles. I take the freeway in the morning and it takes 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. I take the streets home in the evening and it is 15-20 minutes.
1 mile commute. 10 minutes max from the kitchen table to sitting down at my desk. Same time whether I go by bike, car or train.
When I was living in Houston my commute downtown from the Willowbrook area was about an hour. Here in Indy, where traffic is non existent, I have about a 20 minute commute both ways. I love H-town like crazy but I do not miss that horrible traffic. The only place that I have been that rivals, and is probably worse, is Chicago. We drive up there about once a month to visit my wifes family and I swear that it takes about 2 - 2 and a half hours to get to South Chicago and takes another 2 - 2 and a half hours to get through the damn city. I hate Chicago traffic.
