The reason I ask is a majority of good or great GM's leave the team they made the most progress with for more money; ie Bryan Colangelo, Kiki Vanderweigh?, and so on. With the A1 job Morey's done with Houston do you guys think we can pay him enough so he'll stay???
We'll even if for some odd reason we don't win the trophy, I'd like to know that the guy who built the best team we've had since the championship years will be retained...forgive me for thinking about the future.
Best team ON PAPER. That doesn't count. We saw how it turned out after we got Scola/Landry/James/Francis. Nothing is proven yet.
That's basically what I'm saying, he assembled the best team possible with little assets. If we don't win **** it but either way I'd like to keep the him.
Pay Morey the remaining amount in our MLE! And...give Dorsey the quadrannual exception and Deke the bicentennial exception?!?! Who cares, it's Morey, he'll make it happen. We probably have a deal where whatever x dollars we have that are under the salary cap just gets topped off and goes to Morey's salary. That way we'll always be $1 under the cap and Morey can get his too.
are positions like GM under contract? I always believe they were "at will" position much like most people's jobs. And its up to the owner and Daryl's bosses how long he stays if they wish to let him go for any reason. By the same token I think he would be able to resign and move to another team if another team is willing to offer him more money to do so. I do believe there are clauses in his job where he cannot just leave mid season or leave without have some sort of structure in place for the incoming GM to follow. So while the second part sounds like a contract, it could be but its more of an agreement (like most of us have sign some sort of agreement with our employers) but I dont think he has like a 5 year deal worth 5 million type of situation.
I think one more year left, but then he's a restricted free agent -- Morey has the right to match any offer Morey gets.
