KG looks tired and worn out. While he is still 28, it is his 10th season and that is a lot of basketball games. I remember Isiah Thomas retired at early 30's. Can KG keep playing like he used to be for the next 3-5 years?
The question should be how long Flip Saunder will be allowed to coach considering he is mediocre at best.
Flip is a terrific coach, tho his time may be up with that group. KG probably only has another 10 years or so left.
He needs more help, all this losing and uninspired play from him is probably his silent cry for help, bring someone in, or trade me type of plea. Tired of doing the job of three guys on that team, scoring, rebounding, defending and distributing, I would have had enough a couple of years ago. He has a lot of basketball left he just has to find some inspiration right now it looks like he's lost it all, seeing his two main guys put money over winning at the beginning of the season might have discouraged him.
Only?? 10 years ago, Hakeem Olajuwon was defending his MVP award, en route to defeating a 3rd year Shaq and 2nd year Penny Hardaway for the Rockets' 2nd title. 10 years is a long time.
The dude has won only 2 playoff series in his whole career with KG on his squad. He sucks as a coach.
Geez havent you guys heard he is sulking because he wants to come play on Rockets so he can play some hoops with Yao and Tmac.
You heard it here first. Padgett and a pick for KG. I hate to see Padgett go, but to get talent, you have to give up talent.
The sad thing is, we have more invested in Taylor+Howard+Spoon this season than Minnesota is paying for Garnett.
True. But even if you get rid of Mo+JH+Spoon, you still need to have someone to back up KG, and a good PG. But of course, if KG wants to come, I can see Yao is willing to play for non-max. Because that's automatically Dynasty! It's over, nothing left to see. KG+T-Mac+Yao? it will give me wet dreams
It wasn't by choice though. IIRC correctly, he suffered a really bad ankle injury and wasn't expected to be able to fully recover enough to play.
I don't remember Mo making Garnett dough. The Kid can retire whenever he wants and have more lucre than he could possibly spend. If/when he has his hoops love sated he can wave 'Good - bye!'
Shawn Kemp burned out early, but as we know, he had other problems. I think the new generation of highschoolers will play for a long time. Baskertball is just too much fun. And what other options are there. Real life. Not a chance.
Sign Yao to the max next year and then trade his ass for KG. I'm just kidding (right now), but KG did mention Houston as a city he would really like to play in before they got Spree and Cassell to back him up and convince him to sign an extension.
If KG still hasn't won a title by the time his contract runs out in 2009, I bet that he'll be looking to sign up with a contender on the cheap to make a championship run. Of course, that's 4 and a 1/2 years from now, so it's a bit early to be trying to recruit him.
KG is a physical specimen. The guy just keeps on going. But he doesn't seem to have the same swagger as he did last season, obviously because they aren't the best team anymore. But it seems like KG is too passive sometimes. The ball should have been in his hands lastnight with the game on the line, we had either Howard or Spoon on him, both are shorter and definitely not as quick as KG either.
