Even though they are two different players , playing two different positions . Many similarities abound about their situations . We can try to compare them a bit this way .

If Jabari can keep up his production from the last few games and the rockets see a couple more wins then I could confidently say Smith is ahead .

green was equally awful the first 10 games of last year , then he got hurt . We won our first games when he was out . It took green until much later in the season to contribute to wins .

we are better as a team this year (despite Tate out , but kmj has been playing well ) also we got a hot night from Gary and we didn’t have him until later last year .

back to topic . I haven’t been able to watch the last few games . How has Smiths defense looked ?

It is a winning streak, treat it as such.

    Good development will come later.

What if I told you Green hasn't turned the corner yet? He goes full Green Mamba in year 3.

    Through 18 games…
    JG: 30.8 minutes | 4.8-12.7 (38.2%) | 1.8-6.4 (27.8% 3pt) | 2.6-3.2 (80.7% FT) | 3.1 rebounds | 2.3 assists | 14.0 points
    (1) 30-point game, (3) 20+point games, (8) games with 10 points or less
    JS: 30.7 minutes | 3.8-11.2 (34.2%) | 2.1-6.4 (32.2% 3pt) | 2.0-2.3 (85.7% FT) | 7.4 rebounds | 0.8 assists | 11.7 points
    (3) 20+point games, (9) games with 10 points or less

I’m sure someone can you give a better, deeper dive…

In the past five games Smith is averaging 16/9 while shooting 36.6% from deep on eight attempts per game. It's nice to see him comfortable taking threes in volume. In the ten games prior, he was only attempting 4.8 threes per game. His defense has been decent, not outrageously good IMO. He's not being asked to do very much at the moment besides shoot, which is fine with me if it simplifies his role.

Sooner if not for the politics of building up trade value for others.

Smith has shown up NBA ready on defense with flashes on offense. I’m thrilled with his growth so far. I’d take him over Banchero.

How long did it take Green to turn the corner...? He is 19 games into his sophmore season. If you think he turned the corner, he did it somewhere in his first 83 games. There is nothing instructive about that for Jabari.

Holy **** this forum is inpatient.

    You're not watching Banchero.

Yes I am. I like Jabari’s motor and upside better.

I think Jabari has the potential to be very special defensively, but we're being a bit dismissive just brushing off Banchero's 23ppg, 7rpg, 3apg, 1.5stockpg Rookie campaign.

Could you help me better understand the differences in motor and upside between the two players that you're seeing?

Shooting is looking way better already. Still getting called for lots of bogus rookie fouls, but Jabari’s a gem and I’m glad we got him.

When Silas is gone, the corner will be clearer for both.

Green is vastly improved but not a finished product. Still has his ups and downs but he's only 20 for god's sake.

It will be a multi year process for Jabari as well until he is in his final form.

Be patient, much like with Green last year, it's clear to see the talent and work ethic is there. I have no worries about either player and think we picked right with our draft position both times.

he was 3/4 on 3's last night and shooting with confidence. As long as his 3's fall he's useful

Saw much of the same movement or lack there of last gm to Bari. Re-watched and saw the same. Hope as his numbers go up, his inclusion does as well.
