I know there are a lot of chinese members here in china so i was just wondering... Yao's developed an "American attitude" lately, hollering and fighting with the refs, pushing his teammates, etc. With that being said, how is his new attitude viewed in China?

Are the older folks frowning down on Yao while the younger generation praise Yao? Or are both sides frowning down on Yao? Or is he so popular that everything he does is ok?

    Just wondering.

    I am a Chinese and I like Yao's attitude!
He should be more aggresive! I saw all the 3 matches of CNT in Japan and Yao suffered some ridiculous fouls. The refs in FIBA sux! as same as that in the NBA.
Come on YAO! showed them you are the most dominant CENTER in the world and Bring the NBA Title in the coming years for all the Clutch Fans!!

YUP he has demonstrated that he is the most dominant player/centre in the World Championship so far, despite a sucking national team.

After 3 games, he is the leading scorer of all players in the 24 teams........80 points with an average of 26.7ppg. And his rebounds are so far 27/9rpg.

It will be so frustrating and disappointing if he cannot further lead the national team into 2nd round, and lost this scoring champion title to others.

There might be some cultural shock, but Yao's reputation is good as always.

Umm...I wouldn't call what Yao did at the end of last year "hollering and fighting". Protesting the call? Sure. Getting upset and "arguing" BRIEFLY with the ref? Maybe, but still think arguing may be a little strong.

You make it sound like he went around doing this all season. He may have done it once or twice, but (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) he didn't start "pushing his teammates" on a consistent basis. Honestly, I don't recall him doing it at all, but since you made that statement, I'll assume it happened once or twice.

I'll agree that his attitude has changed to be more aggressive lately, but I think what you said above is untrue and misleading.

I'm still waiting for him to hit the referee, or more preferably, break the three ref's foot. See how they like it.

For his whole career he has always been commented as soft, it is just happy for fans to see he has stepped up in his attitude and trying to become a dominant player for many years to come.

Yao has high ball IQ + EQ, therefore the likelyness of him beating up ref or other people is very low, unless he is taunted at first ie when desmond mason was in the fight with Yao ( or nearly) when desmond mason tossed yao on the floor while getting up

    out of the topic....

JVG has nice arm grips ( recall the NYK times) whilst holding onto legs

The problem right now is that his aggressiveness is leading to offensive fouls. The other teams have caught on that the refs are more than willing to call them and so are willing to take the dunks from failed flops for the offensive fouls from successful flops. If Yao doesn't foul out yesterday, China doesn't lose. Yao must find a better way to attack the basket without allowing the opponent an opportunity to flop (and far too often, get a bogus offensive foul call).

it's okay..let them take those fouls. yao just need to give them one FINAL offensive foul. no one will be taking anymore after that ;)

    Bruce Bowen: Did we win?
Parker: Yeah but you lost an arm, but don't worry, yao broke your legs in two places so you can use half of it as a new appendage.
Bruce Bowen: So I took one for the team?
Ginobili: No, you're just an idiot, what were you thinking!!
