Yeah, this could have gone in the NCAA forum, but it's pretty dead even with March Madness in full swing. He's going to be the #1 pick anyway, so I figure it's relevant enough to the Dish. He's an incredible athlete, but that advantage will be lessened, if not completely nullified in the NBA. I don't watch enough Oklahoma ball to know for sure...does he have an outstanding skill set for either the PF or SF position or does he simply overpower his competition? By the way, the fast break windmill in that video is bonkers.
He is FAR and away the best player in college basketball... As Clyde would say, He will be a perennial all-star...
yeah, I don't think that changes the fact that he is a collegiate athlete and we have a separate section for that sort of stuff... As for Griffin, I'd love to see him in a Kings uni...the second coming of Brad Miller?
In college, he's a man among boys because of his strength and athleticism. Hard to predict his pro potential. If he develops a mid-range game, could be a star. As it is, NBA players will just back off and force him to shoot 12-15 foot jumpers.
Amare-type player... Hes going to put up good numbers but I do not think he will end up being like a franchise player like Howard
So Griffin will be a perimeter big man that will live off of jumpshots in the NBA? I didn't get that feeling when I watched the vid. Good luck to Blake in Sacramento or Washington.
I understand if a mod feels the need to move it. I just wanted some steady conversation and that's rare in the NCAA forum this time of year, outside of the tourney thread of course. I realize that, technically, that's where it belongs. Please don't shoot me.
I don't follow a lot of college ball but it's hard to imagine he'll end up being anything less than a very solid pro in the long run, assuming good health. He should make an immediate impact because of his build and the fact that he'll be going to a bad team. If he has a poor jumpshot, that will limit his effectiveness like A_3PO said.
Well, this is one thing that puzzles me. Some say he doesn't have a jumper, but he does shoot 38% from 3, and that's after they moved the line back this year. Perhaps he only attempts them when he's wide open, which could lead to a misleading % of made attempts...?
Ok, mabye Miller 3.0, but Its only because I didn't want to compare him to Chris Webber. All I know is he is definitely not Amaresque...
He's 3 for 8 on threes in 33 games and 937 minutes. I don't think that says much about his range. He's a very poor free throw shooter, though. That tells us something.
3-point shooting has nothing to do with it. Blake Griffin must learn to how drill semi-contested mid-range shots to excel in the NBA or he will never get a lane to the basket. Defenses will back off and not allow him to drive unless he can punish them by shooting. It may turn out that he's so dynamic with his back to the basket that he won't need much mid-range game. I have my doubts about this, but there is no denying his explosiveness and athleticism. We will see.
What's an upgraded Miller version? An even better jumpshooting bigman? Actually, alot of that vid was Amaresque. Are you saying Griffin will actually want to play D in the NBA?
He's every bit as good as advertised. He has a lot of work to do offensively but he's exactly the type of player NBA coaches would kill to have. Not just because of his incredible upside or star potential, but his intangibles really stick out. High basketball IQ, great motor, unselfish, hard working and appears to be a great teammate. He's an excellent rebounder with an NBA body and athleticism. At the very worst he'll be a double-double machine until he develops an NBA-level offensive arsenal that doesn't rely SOLELY on his athleticism. I see a little Antonio McDyess in him. Pre-injury, although with the way McDyess has been playing lately it really shouldn't matter which label I give out. Some have suggested a Boozer comparison as well. I can kind of see that too.
Blake Griffin is legit... he's got a skill set under the basket that is part power, part finesse. unlike Hansbrough who has to get by on his size and tenacity and will get killed trying to guard NBA big men.
Argh! I knew I should have looked at the # of attempts. How simple. My poor excuse is that I'm on a laptop and I hate touch mouse pads, so I try not to navigate around any more than I have to, which includes opening a new window to go to ESPN
the guy will be a better version of kevin love, but both of them will have better careers than michael beasley.
