I find it incredible that the league says coaches are wrong to complain .... and turn around and admit the best ref is wrong 10% of the time!! ;)

Does it mean, since they have 3 refs, they will blow 3 out of 7 calls? Is that the reason the 3 refs system seems worse than the 2 ref system they used to have?

Correct me if I remember wrong ... I think you hardly saw 1 or 2 bad calls in a whole game 20 years ago.

These days, the questionable calls are up in the teens each game!

I think they're good for the most part. They mess up plenty, but there's no one else better.

There were plenty of bad calls 20 years ago. It's just most of us have forgotten about it or just moved on.

The one call that will always stick in my mind was that bucket DRobinson hit on us to force OT when it was CLEARLY after the buzzer. Rox lost homecourt to Sea in playoffs where the home team won each game.

The way I count, if each official misses 1 in 10, then collectively 3 officials should miss 3 in 30. No?

I think refs do a good job in a difficult situation. Sure they make mistakes, but who dosen't. Try it yourself. When you see a close play on TV, make the call, then look at the replay and see how often you were right. Keep a record, my guess is that nobody here hits 90%.

This is really not a math problem, I don't think ... it is just the matter of how they keep record.

    They might mean different things:
    1) For every 10 plays, a ref would miss 1 call.

This was my thinking and it would be pretty bad.
Ref A might make a bad call in play 2,
Ref B makes a bad call in play 5,
Ref C makes a bad call in play 9.

    or:
    2) For every 10 calls, a ref misses 1 call.

This is probably what they mean. Since there is only 1 call that stands for a play, the math would work out like you said.

Very good, thats a hard job, whoever can do a better job, step up, and I'm saying this after seeing the Rockets Boston game, they have a though job out there, and even though they sometimes make calls that make people very mad, keep in mind that there are only three of them and they have to be watching everything from the shot clock, to the game clock, and don't forget about the bunch of mindless rules they have to enforce i.e. the three second and the stupid zone defense that they have to keep an eye on, man it makes me tired just thinking about all those stupid rules they have to enforce, they are good.

The refs sure did get one wrong last night at the Rockets/Celtics game.

Piatkowski was elbowed in the face by some Boston player and was charged with a foul.

As Bill Worrell said, "Wow, he fouled him by nose."

the best will be wrong 10 percent of the time.

This is total BS. They miss way more than 10%. For example, traveling and palming are against the rules but rarely called.

I think it's alot worse than that too.. what about "star" treatment or "veteran" calls.. that kind of stuff is BS. A foul should be a foul no matter who commits it.

Im starting dislike all the ticky tack fouls they have been calling these days too. I like people fighting/ pushing/ working to get position but dont be one sided. That should be a no call period on either side of the ball unless its grabbing.

I hope the NBA removes some stupid rules so the refs have less to worry about while on the court. Illegal Defense/ Illegal Offense that stuffs ridiculous.. just let them play. I get irritated when im watching a game and they call fouls everytime down the floor.

They should make it a point of emphasis that no one gets "Star" treatment either that is such crap. I hate when Kobe or someone gets someone in the air and then jumps into them. Isnt Kobe initiating the contact? that should be a total no call!!

Just venting about this total lopsided fixed game we call BB. Sometimes I think that BB is fixed and that the winners and losers are determined before the game starts. The refs can control the flow of the game too much. Call a couple quick fouls on a player early in the game and they are done.

NBA has been losing viewership and fans steadily for a couple years now and I dont see it making any kind of recovery anytime soon. I read that Stern couldnt negotiate more games on the big stations or better contracts for the NBA because on an average viewership is that high. I wonder why?!?!

They suck. Yao gets hacked too much and gets called for ticky tack fouls himself.

Another missing call is moving screens, especially the pick stepping out on the pick and roll. There is zero tolerance for this nonsense in college ball and I wished the same could to be said for pro.

maybe they should get rid of the NBA refs and bring in college BB refs. At least they may not be as biased towards certain players and we can start over with them.

If NBA refs wouldn't give the star players preferential treatment, the NBA would be a lot more exciting. Right now, the star players play iso because they usually get a foul call if they miss. If the refs call the game like it should, then I think the star players would pass more because the foul call wouldn't bail them out everytime. College is more exciting right now because they play team basketball rather than iso.
The whole waiting to see if a player misses before calling a foul makes no sense anyways. Either it's a foul or it's not a foul! I think NBA refs are right about 10% of the time. So many missed layups are called fouls, even when their is no contact. Everytime a player misses on a fast break, the ref blows the whistle automatically just because they assume the players must have been fouled to miss a shot like that.
