we are what , 24-4 in 2008 ? and yet we are still in the back of pack, hangin on for dear life. if we lose to denver sunday we will only be 2 games from being out of the playoffs once again. that is really starting to piss me off. we have one 14 straight games and it feels like we arent making up any ground (even though we have ) we are 2.5 out of first right now and just feels soooooo far away. im sick of it !!!
We're closer to first in the West than being out of the playoffs. I'm OK with that. Can't help that it's a tight race.
Maybe when I finally come to terms with Yao's stress fracture I can let myself become frustrated with an undefeated month.
Don't worry. In a couple of weeks, the Rockets will either quickly move up the standings, or they will truly deserve their place relative to the other teams. The western playoff teams will play each other a lot this month.
Yah Division lead...but I believe if we played them in the playoffs tomorrow, we would get actually get homecourt advantage due to the better record (even though they are seeded higher). Anyone care to correct/add to this?
That would be correct if both teams are either the 4th or 5th seed. If we land in 6-8 then Utah's inferior record would not matter because we will be playing the 1-3. That sounds a bit confusing so here is a hypothetical. Lets make the season 8 games: 1. Lakers (record: 8-0) 8. Warriors (record: 2-6) 4. Suns (record: 6-2) 5. Utah (record: 3-5) 3. NO (record: 7-1) 6. Mavs (record: 5-3) 2. Spurs (record: 7-1) 7. Rockets (record: 4-4) Division winners: Lakers, Spurs, Jazz Home Court in First Round: Lakers, Suns, NO, Spurs So even tough the Rockets would have a better record than the Jazz, it wouldn't help us because we won't be facing them. However, if we meet in later rounds, then yes, it would be helpful because we would get game 7 at the Toyota Center!
We have to climb up the ladder and get a good seed. I don't think that we can beat the Spurs or the Lakers in the first round, but if we face teams like Denver, GS, Phoenix, or even Dallas and NO, we'll have a chance.
the most frustrating part to me is that none of the eastern teams can beat the top west teams, the top west teams only lose to each other, so even when we gain 1/2 a game on somebody, we lose 1/2 a game to somebody else
Next week, there will be a chance to move up to the 3rd seed. There are games against Dallas and New Orleans. It will be our chance to stick a loss on both teams. It will be a dogfight until the last minute. New Orleans will play with extra energy after being embarassed by the Rockets in the last game.
It's frustrating, but you look at the standings and we're 3 games out of first. The Rockets(for the most part) control their own destiny. Sweep this upcoming week and suddenly we could be seeded as high as 3rd.
For an European as i am, the standings made in NBA is a nonsense. Divisions are useless in my point of view, because it isn't significative and to be champion of a division or even of conference don't need to anything. As for me, the logic would be actually: Spurs 39 - 17 Lakers 41 - 18 Hornets 39 - 18 Suns 39 - 19 Mavericks 39 - 20 Rockets 38 - 20 Jazz 37 - 22 Warriors 35 - 22 Nuggets 35 - 23 But it is: Spurs 39 - 17 Lakers 41 - 18 Hornets 39 - 18 Jazz 37 - 22 Suns 39 - 19 Mavericks 39 - 20 Rockets 38 - 20 Warriors 35 - 22 Nuggets 35 - 23 It is absolutly not logical at all in a pure sportive point of view because here, the Jazz have advantage on Suns, Mavs and Rox even if they are less good. And i think the same thing with the fact that this is always the winner of western conference against the winner of the eastern conference. If the two better teams in NBA are playing in the same conference, they will never fight for the title in the final, with great matches. I find that illogical.
How about just being happy that we have won 14 in a row and are in the thick of things in the tightly packed western conference....huh? how about that?
what's frustrating is that we FINALLY have the role players around tmac and yao that we have been searching hard for 3 yrs and a major injury is potentially keeping us from reaching our goals. i truly know in my heart we are one of 3 teams to contend for the title: spurs, lakers, and us. i will pray all summer that we are healthy next yr b/c we can get that #1 seed. but i still believe in the team now. all u can say is the level of competition is very high. this is helping the NBA b/c every team is playing their hardest even in just the 60th game of an 82 game season and fighting for their lives already. it's fun stuff. it's like the wild card of baseball.
What can you do? I'm more frustrated about losing Yao for the rest of the season during one of our best stretches ever.
Dallas will play LA Lakers and Utah Jazz back to back on the road on Sunday and Monday, so Rockets will have a good chance to move up one spot.
