How formidable will the knicks be if they sign Stoudemire and Joe Johnson?

    So free agency has taken an unexpected turn, my predictions were
    James and Bosh to chicago
    Wade and Amare to Miami
    and Knick get boozer and gay/johnson

    But it seems that it will go in the direction of
    James and Bosh to chicago (how can they not go?)
    Wade and over paid boozer to miami
    and Amare and Joe Johnson to the knicks

    This makes the knicks alot more formidable in my opinion and it cause miami to suck because boozer is not up to par with amare and bosh.

    First of all i think there is gonna be a team that will throw a wrench in there very soon .

    The Knicks will be good , but not enough to make them title contenders IMO. Knicks needed to get a Lebron or a Wade to go along with Amare , not Joe Johnson .

    If NY gets Amare and JJ but David Lee goes then I say it makes them a 7th or 8th seed playoff team. Not good for us but not nearly enough to make NY a good team.

    They are not getting Joe Johnson, so it's more like Amare + Richard Jefferson, Amare + Igoudala, or Amare + Gilbert...

    They are the 2005 Phoenix Suns without MVP Steve Nash, and the good role players surrounding them. :grin:

    So it would be the suns from 5 or so years ago, just without steve nash and Q richardson. My guess.......not so good

    ...ya, I wouldn't expect NY to strike fear in any legit contender but I imagine with those two the Knicks are at least a playoff team meaning those picks won't be lottery unless there are some injuries which isn't out of the realm of possibility with Amare. He has only been slightly less injury prone than Yao. That being said, I think we are still pretty far from any resolution on the subject....the Knicks don't have Amare OR Joe Johnson right now.

    Possible 4-6 seed in the East.

    No defense whatsoever.

    in that situation they have used all of their cap space. they must fill the roster with rookie minimum salary players. their roster will look like this:

    amare-curry
    gallo-undrafted rookie
    chandler-undrafted rookie
    johnson-walker
    douglas-undrafted rookie

    VERY shallow team. if healthy all year they might be able to make the playoffs. but that's a big IF, considering amare, gallo, and curry's injury history. plus the starters will all have to play about 40 minutes a night.

    I have a little different opinion on how it's going to shake out (imagine that). :grin:

    James and Bosh to chicago (how can they not go?)

    This could happen, but my thinking is that Bosh will be coming to Houston if he continues to insist on a S&T deal. That opens the door for David Lee to go to Chicago with Lebron. That should make Chicago a serious contender for the Championship game.

    Wade and over paid boozer to miami

    I agree with this scenario.

    Amare and Joe Johnson to the knicks

    I believe that JJ is going to re-sign with Atlanta & that NY will only end up with Stoudemire. There's media speculation that NY will try & trade for Tony Parker or Chris Paul, but let's be honest here, what do they have to trade if Lee is gone? Those NY picks are looking really sweet right now & I'm hoping we get to keep at least one of them out of the Chris Bosh S&T deal.

    They will make the playoffs if that happens.

    Cleveland - If they lose Bron they will drop out of the playoffs.
    Miami - Drop out of the playoffs.

    I expect NJ and NY to take the places of those teams.

    If I had to guess right now, these would be the favorites:

    Lebron -> Cleveland
    Wade -> Chicago
    Bosh -> Chicago
    Boozer -> Miami
    Amare -> NYK
    Johnson -> ATL

    as formidable as this.

    A poor version of the Grizzlies, before they traded away Gasol. The Stoudemire/Johnson/Gallanari combo vs Gasol/Gay/Miller is worse. The role players are worse.

    C Darko > Curry Grizzlies Curry is always injured. He contributes so little that a "Curry" stat was created for players who don't grab rebounds, blocks, or assists for number of minutes player.

    PF Gasol > Stoudemire Grizzlies Gasol is more offensively skilled, rebounds the ball, plays better defense and plays 80-82 games every season.

    SF Gay > Gallinari Grizzlies Gallinari isn't as good.

    SG Mike Miller < Johnson Knicks Johnson has plays defense and has a more versatile offensive game. He is healthier, too.

    PG Conley > Toney Douglas Grizzlies Douglas is a scrub.

    Primary bench players
    Kyle Lowry, Hakkim Warrick, Juan Carlos Navarro
    >
    Wilson Chandler, Bill Walker, NBDL PF/C(Earl Barron comes back? Maybe Dorsey), NBDL PG(Will Conroy?)

    Grizzlies
    Dorsey, Earl Barron or some other NBDL PF/C is worse than Warrick.
    Kyle Lowry is a fantastic backup PG that made things happen and would destroy NBDL PGs like Will Conroy.

    I think it would put the Knicks in the playoff mix in the Eastern Conference, but I don't think it makes them contenders by any means.

    Amare is a premier offensive big man. No doubt about it. But his lack of effort on the defensive end of the floor will hurt the Knicks just like it did the Suns against teams with size. It wasn't as glaring when he was playing with the Suns because the Suns had a good enough team to be a contender anyway. With the Knicks, that won't be the case.

    I'm not sure that JJ is a top flight player. He was most effective while playing with the Suns in that offense. He will be in that offense again in NY, but without an elite point guard in Steve Nash to set him up. With the Hawks he was a nice player, but I think he showed that he is just not a big-time star when he never could get the Hawks out of the first round.

    JJ and Amare probably make the playoffs if healthy. Right now, I'm guessing Knicks get Amare and role players and miss the playoffs.
