Say, can you trade Patrick Ewing Jr. for a draft pick in the year 3000(, supposedly the NBA still exists by then)?

I'm guessing you can trade as far in the future as you want but I doubt any team would bite on a 2050 draft pick.

Probably within the lifespan of the GM, which is about 5 years. :D

dude, we'd be screwed after cp3 retires with his 10-12 rings with us. 12 years of greatness for 78 years of hell?

    :p

In all seriousness, I think you can only trade out for a draft pick within 2-3 years. I've seen trades where you can't trade consecutive picks (Devin Harris trade to NJ had dallas' 2 first rounders, 2008 and 2010) so I think it's a safe assumption you can go around 2-3 years out...but if anyone knows, please let us know!

Didn't Detroit get the Grizzlies pick (#2, Darko) because of an old trade from the late nineties (I believe 1997). Darko was picked in the 2003 draft.

I guess you never heard about the Herschel Walker deal from Dallas to Minnesota?

That was only for 4 seasons.

You could imagine 100 years or season.

Very short sighted to do something, like that unless you have organization, like the Lakers and Yankees where you can buy everyone else's best players.

I would do a ricky williams type deal for deron or CP3 today if it was allowed. all the 2010-2020 first rounder CP3 Id take that bc he'll play till 2020 anyways haha.

Yes, I believe that pick had 5 years of lottery protection.

    One championship.

Think of how many they'd have, or at least have had a bigger chance of having, had they gotten Bosh or Wade or Melo.

Dumars screwed up that one, no doubt.

there would be no rooms for development had bosh, wade, melo or the likes join the pistons...

or it is better to say in this way - their developments will be much slower~

#1 pick Chris Webber was traded for the #3 pick (Penny Hardaway) plus three future first rounders. So, it's definitely at least 3 yrs. You can get around the consecutive yr rule by having other 1st round picks. As long as you have one, you're fine.

I think it's pretty safe to say there is not limit. The market takes care of itself. At some point, the trade value diminishes.

I'd bite on a 2037 first rounder. Bron Bron's boy will be entering the NBA.
