Since the season started my stupid cousin is sayin that Celtics are the best team in the NBA. Nevermind that,I know thats false but what do you think, how far and deep this Celtics team can go? Does this team has guts to beat Pistons,Cavs or Bulls ?! We'll see,but I'm interested in your opinion. After all they are in the Eastern Conference.
Did your cousin consider that the Celtics have only played two games so far and that both were against mediocre Eastern Conference teams? And, for that matter, that they had to go into overtime to barely beat one of those mediocre teams?
They certainly are. Which means they wouldn't even make the playoffs in the Western Conference. I didn't mean they were mediocre opposed to other Eastern Conference teams, but that they were mediocre NBA teams. So far as I'm concerned the Pistons and possibly the Celtics are the only teams in the Eastern Conference that might be better than mediocre. The Pistons are definitely pretty good, but the jury is still out on the Celtics. I don't think much of the Cavs or Raptors. I really don't think either team could make the playoffs in the West.
I wouldn't go that far. The Cavs strike me as a better version of the Lakers (which means should make the playoffs in the West, though not definitive), while the Raptors are kind of similar to the Hornets (same as above, how consistent can they be, how good can they be defensively will be key factors). But the East is clearly weaker then the West. I agree in general, the Celtics and Pistons seem like the only threats out of the East now. That doesn't guarantee a trip to the Finals, much less winning it, though.
the question was how far could they go...I say the NBA Finals, which is just a step down from winning it all. Whether the raps can make the playoffs in the west is a different story, if they do make it, it will be 7 or 8
The new Celtics team is pretty good, i'd say there's no doubt about that. We have to wait and see how they play togheter now, if they are doing fine, they could really become one of the top teams. But there are a couple of good teams with great players who did never really get something going in the last couple of years.
I say all the way to the finals. I think the only teams that would give them a lot of headache are the Pistons (of course) and the Knicks (call me crazy!) I don't think the Celtics would fare well against a team a powerful front court lineup that can really contain and nullify Garnett, such as the Knicks. Zach Randolph is amazing.
It would be fun if this turns out to be a season in which both Boston and New York become relevant again
That's true. That was the question, but I was responding to the comment that the guy said the Celtics are the best team in the league. I agree with you that the Celtics can make it all the way to the Finals, but unless somebody good (and better yet a few good players) get waived and picked up by the Celtics before the season is over, I expect they'll get their asses handed to them if they do reach the Finals.
REaching the final will be a huge success for them this year. If they are able to reach the finals, then all those star players near their retirement age, who are still suspicious now, will want to join them cheap during the summer.
I have been undecided thus far, not wanting to get to excited about whats on paper, but I'm convinced now that they are probably the best team in the east. I'm watching them play Denver, and they look amazing thus far. I'd actually say, I'm a little surprised how fluid they look offensively. I have been skeptical of Paul Pierce, and his ability to pull a TMac, and become a bona-fide facilitator. It's only 1 quarter in, but they've already dropped 38, locked up defensively and gotten pretty much everyone involved. If they get good defense from Perkins.... and their guards like House, West then I wouldn't say this team is capable of beating almost any team in the league. If I had to pick one team I'd want to win the East, the team that I would want to beat the most, then its Boston. Oh, what sweet revenge that would be.
