I'm not even referring to the missed defensive assignments that occur with way too much regularity...I'm talking about his ridiculous statements to the press yesterday. First he completely undermines VG's assertion that Yao is officiated unfairly by saying that "all big men are treated unfairly...it's been this way for years now." Gee Mo, thanks for completely discounting your own coach's case against the officials. Then he says he doesn't want to guard Shaq and that it's not his job even with Cato out. Are you F***'n kidding me! You're 6'9, built like a house and yet still to much of a p**sy to guard Shaq? OK, I see, I guess that same mindset is also why you only pull down 5 boards per game for your career. Somebody put a muzzle on this idiot.
Actually Mo is one of our better interviews, speaks well and gives intelligent answers usually. I'd have to see the context of these statements before I could pass judgement. But you sure seem pissed off by them
well, i'd agree with that for the most part...he's certainly more articulate than Francis and Mobes - I'll give him credit for that, but check out today's Chron article about VG's complaints...it sure sounds like MoT made some stupid comments. I don't think he's a championhsip calibre player, complaining about defensive assignments and such. You just don't do that when you're trying to win championships...everyone has to sacrifice. That said, I'd probably dump a third of our roster before letting him go...he certainly plays all out on offense and gives us a huge boost there.
MoT only tells the truth. I would rather put Weatherspoon against Shaq despite giving up 2 more inches to Shaq.
If Mo does not want to defend big men, he's in the wrong conference. He gets overpaid to be a "big" man, and he has the game of a SF. Good grief. I guess he's used to getting paid for being a wuss, stemming from his days at Michigan, when he got paid almost as much as he does now.
"Honestly, it's not really my job to guard Shaq, and I hope it doesn't become my job," Taylor said. "But I'll just try to do my best. Any way that I think I can get an advantage, that's what I'm going to use. If getting in front of him will help me, using quickness instead of strength, that's fine. I just want to make it hard for him. I don't want him to bang on me that easy. So if I can get (in front) of him, and if he has to dribble a couple of times and then bang on me, I think I did my job." ____________________________________________________ Found my context and I honestly don't see anything wrong with what he said except he didn't end with Yao's the best, I'll make sure to let Mo know to do that after every statement from now on
context....he knows Cato is out and he still doesn't think he should have to help out on Shaq? He's our second biggest player, who else should guard him when Yao is out? He follows up with some BS on how he going to play him to make it sound better. Even if he doesn't have the balls to play him, he shouldn't say it. The battle is already over when you step out with a defeatist attitude. Truthfully though, I think Weatherspoon, despite being 6'4 and having less hops, can do a better job contesting the diesel than MoT, based on heart alone.
Kenny Thomas use to guard Shaq. . . . no comments .. he just did it Just to sauce it up in here Rocket river
Does anybody remember the '99 playoffs when we had Antoine Carr guarding Shaq? All he would do was simply bear hug Shaq every time he got the ball down low.
Sounds to me like he's saying it isn't usually his job because it is always Yao and Cato guarding Shaq. He knows Cato is out and that there's a possibility the job will fall to him. Saying he's not looking forward to it isn't defeatist; who wants to get banged on by Shaq? It's light-hearted. Besides I bet he knows that Charles Oakley will draw the primary backup assignment of guarding Shaq.
