Thanks for your indepth responses. It sounds like The Cat has got alot of work to do to keep the league afloat. Good job. Good luck in y'alls upcoming season! I think I'll lurk around this fantasy forum and see if any team spots open up because I'd love to play. ------------------
I've played fantasy hoops in Smallworld and Sandbox and I have been reading some of you guys' posts. I don't understand how y'all get your numbers. How can you know how a guy is going to play if he's a rookie or if he's a bench warmer? Thanks for anyone who can give me an explanation as to how your league works. I'm intrigued. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Matador (edited July 31, 2001).]
The games are simmed on NBA Live2001. Rookies were created by the league commish, TheCat. ------------------ We used to laugh at Grandpa when he'd head off and go fishing. But we wouldn't be laughing that evening when he'd come back with some w**** he picked up in town. Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus Flytrap. The flytrap can bite and bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition.
Matador, TheCat runs this fantasy league and sims games on NBALive (not sure what year) for PS2. Trades discussions/trades all have their own forums, and Cat sims around 5 games every session (every 1 or 2 days usually). The season is simmed with random schedules and the top 8 teams in each conference make the playoffs like the real NBA...then there is the rookie and common drafts. Since there aren't salary caps/free agents, the only way for the bottom teams to get better is by trades/drafts. At the end of each sim season teams can pick any 4 players to protect. The next best player on your roster is taken and placed in the common draft pool. Then you can protect 1 more player and then the next best player is taken again. So each team loses two players to the common draft, but they have 2 common draft picks depending on record (and lottery for top 13 picks). The common draft just pretty much evens out the competition. The good deep teams usually lose guys that start in real life, while the bottom teams usually lose guys that are benchwarmers in real life... Every 4 or 5 (maybe six) sim seasons there is a rookie draft. It only happens once a year (in real life's time) when the real rookie draft is taking place. Not to long ago we just did our sim rookie draft with Griffin, Brown, Curry etc. When draft time comes next year I guess we'll do the draft with Williams, Ming, Wagner etc. with picks determined by record after the season before the draft probably. As of right now all teams are taken, but everyonce in a while there becomes an inactive gm or someone just might not have time to keep up with their team and thats when new gms can take over their teams. There is a list of several people waiting to get in right now, just ask and you can probably be added to the list. That's pretty much an overview of how the sim league works. If I left out something I'm sure you'll get filled in on it later.
