I'm curious to hear knowledgable posters speculate on how they think the rest of this season will shake out with the trade in mind. Specifically, what do people think the Rockets chances are now to make the playoffs?

Sadly that may be the downside of today's trade; I don't think we going to get as good of a 2010 pick as we were going to get.

But it will be nice to see the new players.

I would have to say even. We're going to be much more efficient on outside shooting now, but at the same time we're going to be a lot weaker in the post and the bench, which has saved us all season long. I almost think moving Ariza to the three while taking shots away from him will be one of the biggest immediate improvements we'll see.

No doubt that it's an improvement for when Yao returns.

Really good but if Jordan Hill develops quickly then it could be a nice run we are about to watch. Saying that, I think Hill will take a season to get good so they will battle for a spot as a 7 or 8.

we replaced Carl's scoring with an even better scorer in Kevin Martin.
and we added more sizes to match up with all these big men in the western teams.
i'm really positive on the Rockets making the playoff.

Hopefully we can get ourselves into 6 to 8 range. I can't wait to see how this team's offense runs now. I'm really excited to see what happens.

It doesn't "impact" because impact is a noun. How does it have an impact on the rest of the season? It makes the team worse before it makes it better. Eventually, we'll pick up steam and make something of the new roster. This shake up is really what we needed.

I haven't had the chance to follow Martin this season. Has he fully recovered and returned to the court?

We still have a very rough hill to climb, and what is the chemistry going to be like since we've given up a great locker room, and energy guy in Landry. From watching Martin in the past, he is subpar on defense. But that can also be due to him playing in Sacramento with a different style.

My other question is will Hill be playing or are we going to use this time to develop him for the next season? NYK hardly ever plays him, so it's almost like bringing on a rookie mid season.

    Tough question

All the tools are there, Martin will adjust quickly, but Jordan once he get used to the system, he can be effective since he has space to work on hes moves i hope he grabs some boards. hopefully 8/5 guys with 15min or 20

I think the trade definitely improves our chances of making the playoffs, though it doesn't make us contenders this year. It hurts to give up Landry, but it seems his effectiveness has dropped some since teams started doubling him regularly, and as good as he was, he was more of a post up and score rather than create his own shot type of guy. If the goal is to sell high, it is unlikely Landry's stock was going to get much higher before his next contract.

The main concern with Martin is his health. Last thing we need is another injury prone player, especially when it is your highest paid players. But considering the draft picks and the unknown potential of Hill, I think this is a good move. Before the addition of Hill and the draft picks from NY I was kind of half hearted about it. Martin has played in Adelman's system though so that will help his adjustment, and it is quite possible that Hill ends up becoming another unexpected gem like Lowry has been, and it will be exciting to see what Morey can do with the draft picks. The only problem for Morey as far as fan reputation goes is this is the first big deal he has done that actually has big expectations. Pretty much all of his moves up to this point have been low risk high reward so even those that haven't worked out haven't hurt the Rockets in any significant way and those that have worked out make him look like a genius.

I think this is exactly what Trevor Ariza needs to be productive. You can't rely on Trevor to be that main guy...

If we can make it into the playoffs, I'd say there's a chance we make it out of the first round, depending on our seeding. Just a chance though.

We won't win it all this year.

Even though this trade does make us better, I don't see us beating out Blazers or Suns(not to mention Grizzlies if they get hot again) for the 7 or 8th spot in the west...IMO...

Something thing to consider, is that until Lowry gets back(still out for a couple of more weeks), our bench is gonna be very weak with the loss of landry, so the bench advantage we usually have is gone....

With that said I see us getting the 13th pick in this years draft, and we probably miss the playoffs by a couple of games...IMO...

In addition, we draft Greg Monroe with the 13th pick, then we trade Battier and/or Taylor + rights to knicks 2012th pick for 2010 11th pick and draft Donatas Montiejunas(if his there at that spot)....

I guess it all depends on Martin. Do we get the the -40% shooter or do we get the 45% (40%+ from three) player? Let's say we get the guy in between. Let's say Martin drops around 20-22ppg on 43% shooting and 38% from three. I think if we get that guy the team wins around 48 games and sneaks into the playoffs.

I think Scola is going to see his minutes increase to around 36 per game and I expect his numbers will reflect that. Don't be surprised if Scola is 17/10 guy for the rest of the season.

If Jordan Hill is even a little more productive than David Andersen this season I would consider that a bonus.

My concern is with the 2nd unit. Who scores off of the bench w/o Landry?

The true impact won't be felt until next season IF Yao comes back healthy and ready to play.

I personally think it is about the same. I think Rockets will go to the lottery with a 11-14th pick. I think key will be see how good Jordan Hill is and whether he is worth keeping or making a deal maybe next season and trying to trade Jeffries contract. There is a slight possibility they could still move up to 7th or 8th but that is as high as I will give them.
