I don't know if the time is there for me to become a fully opinionated voter, yet I would like to start for this election because I feel I didn't inform myself and do enough research for the '04 elections.

I know you can go to candidate sites, I know you can go to the "issues" sites. Yet, where can I go for relatively unbiased research on both candidates and how would any of you recommend that I best do this? Do you look at a bunch of newspaper articles? A bunch of youtube debate videos? What exactly does it entail?

just vote the same way as your dad, unless you hate your dad, in which case vote exactly the opposite.

The contrast between the two major parties has maybe never been so stark. So it all depends on what matters to you and where your values lie. What do you feel are the top five issues facing the country over the next 4-8 years? Identify your top issues and look to see how the candidates plan to address them. You will find very different answers from the two major candidates and you shouldn't really need any particular news source from there, except perhaps a fact checking organization that can let you know if the candidates are telling the truth about their own records and positions and their opponents'.

Cute. But I love my dad and we cancel each others' votes out pretty much always.

I would start by looking at their past voting history and where they stand on issues you are concerned about in their candidate platform. You can find those with a simple internet search.

Bottom line: You vote your wallet.

Now figuring out which candidate actually is best for your wallet is the tricky part.

BJ is correct. You only need to know two things when it is time to vote: 1) What do YOU yourself believe in? 2) Which candidate best represents what you believe in?

The main thing which gives people trouble is, a lot of people have no idea what they believe in, and even less what the candidates believe in. But the most important thing is to know yourself. Know what you believe, and have a solid reason for believing it.

This is why Politics is stupid. Unless your inside getting some of that dough, it's a serious waste of life. You are not going to change anything.

If we the people had a vote or something every two years to impeach the President or at least make him inelgible to run for office again, then we can call this great country we live in a democracy.

Not that it would really matter, because I am sure they would rig that too.

lol this is whats wrong with america...people actually believe this crap.
Organizations tell their employees who to vote for and what campaign to contribute money to...My dad works for emerson and the CEO told the division presidents to all donate money to the mccain campaign...These CEO's and corporations dont give a damn about the country, what they care about is their shortsighted bottom line...

Americans need to think about the overall picture...the health of the nation, not only their pockets...

^^^This is why (some) Americans are stupid. And spoiled. The right to vote and participate in our government is wasted on some people. That's too bad.

When voting for a candidate look at their record, look at their record and then look at their record.

And then convince more people to vote.

    Man scammed by Craigslist ad

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. — A pair of hoax ads on Craigslist cost an Oregon man much of what he owned.

The ads popped up Saturday afternoon, saying the owner of a Jacksonville home was forced to leave the area suddenly and his belongings, including a horse, were free for the taking, said Jackson County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Colin Fagan.

But Robert Salisbury had no plans to leave. The independent contractor was at Emigrant Lake when he got a call from a woman who had stopped by his house to claim his horse.

On his way home he stopped a truck loaded down with his work ladders, lawn mower and weed eater.

"I informed them I was the owner, but they refused to give the stuff back," Salisbury said. "They showed me the Craigslist printout and told me they had the right to do what they did."

The driver sped away after rebuking Salisbury. On his way home he spotted other cars filled with his belongings.

Once home he was greeted by close to 30 people rummaging through his barn and front porch.

The trespassers, armed with printouts of the ad, tried to brush him off. "They honestly thought that because it appeared on the Internet it was true," Salisbury said. "It boggles the mind."

Jacksonville police and Jackson County sheriff's deputies arrived but by then several cars packed with Salisbury's property had fled.

He turned some license plate numbers over to police.

Michelle Easley had seen the ad that claimed Salisbury's horse had been declared abandoned by the sheriff's department and was free to a good home.

"I can't stand to see a horse suffer so I drove out there and got her," Easley said. "The horse didn't look abandoned. She is in good shape for being 32 years old."

But it looked odd, so she left a note on Salisbury's door explaining the ad. She then decided to call to make sure the ad was legitimate when the second similar ad appeared.

"I feel bad because I was a part of it," Easley said. "It felt right to call the police."

Fagan praised Easley's honestly but said prosecution was likely for anybody caught with Salisbury's property.

Items can be returned with no questions asked, Fagan said.

Detectives have contacted Craigslist's legal team to try to trace the ad.

Meanwhile, Salisbury could not even relax on his porch swing.

    Someone took it.

Well, you could always be like me:

--I'm pro-personal rights re: legalization of drugs, prostitution, abortion, gay marriage, etc. I basically believe that no one has the right to tell me what to do with my own damn self.

--I want government small, out of my life, out of my bedroom, and away from my pipe. Build roads, deliver mail, provide for the common defense, and leave me the hell alone.

Near as I can tell, I'm basically a civil libertarian, which more or less means that I don't have a candidate.

I'll probably do what I usually do and vote Libertarian. I figure the more of us there are making our voices heard they'll have to pay attention to us eventually.

We don't live and never will live in a "democracy". This is a federal republic.
