Some people, like myself, have noticed that Kobe desperately wants to "be like Mike" in just about every way. I figured I'd see if anyone else had caught anything that I hadn't, in terms of ways that Kobe imitates MJ. I will start the list and if anyone can think of anything else, they can add to it.

    - Sticks his tongue out sometimes on drives/dunks.

    - Pumps his fist after a big shot (I realize others do this, but he does it EXACTLY like MJ...yes there is a certain way)

    - Bends down on one knee following the fist pump mentioned above and slaps the court a few times with his palm. Only player I've ever seen do this is...you guessed it...MJ!

    - During an altercation, he sticks his arm straight out in front of him, points at his opponent and glares at them while talking trash. Again, this is something that is signature MJ and Kobe has started doing it EVERY time there's an argument.

    - Putting his jersey over his mouth when talking to officials. I never see any other players doing this, but guess where I saw it about a week ago. I watched Game 1 of the Bulls/Jazz finals and guess who did it...that's right, MJ did.

    - This one is speculation, but he's changing his number to 24 (1 higher than Jordan). Coincedence?

I do NOT like Kobe, but this isn't a hate thread. This is simply a collection of observations I have made. I can't be the only person that sees this stuff.

And Jordan imitated a lot of things Julius Erving did too, so what? Jordan imitated Phil Jackson's speech patterns, again, so what?

By the way, I've never seen Kobe slap the floor or put his jersey over his mouth when talking to officials.

It's sad to want to be someone else so badly. I'm not talking about modeling yourself after someone else. I'm talking about having an obsession with literally trying as hard as possible to BE another person. It's like he tries to send subliminal messages (although they're pretty obvious) so that we'll just start equating him with Jordan. It's sad, in my opinion. He probably sleeps under sheets made of authentic MJ jerseys he bought on Ebay and stitched together using his limited edition Michael Jordan sewing kit.

But anyway, if you haven't ever seen Kobe slap the floor as I described, that's understandable. Game-tieing/winning shots are rare. However, he covers his mouth quite a bit when talking to the refs. He did it in Game 5 as a matter of fact. I brought it up to my friend and his dad while watching the game.

Licks his lips in a real pronounced way when doing interviews just like Jordan did.

A couple of years back, he kept referring to how everything was "a challenge", over and over - Jordan used to do the same thing.

Rolled around on the ground, hugging and kissing the trophy just like Jordan.

Imitates his walk to a T.

Probably chews gum during games. Don't know for sure, but I would bet he does or did.

Hey I wasn't the only one that noticed when Kobe went after Nash was so Jordan like... Many people wish to "Be like Mike" but for Kobe he actually can pull it off...

It's also pretty sad to hate somebody so much that you have to point out every single thing he do as a supposed flaw in order to bash him...

In case you haven't noticed, he's also imitated Jordan's vice gripping defense, his perfect jumper form, his athleticism, and his killer instinct

I don't think he is bashing on Kobe, just that they are so similar and its not at all a bad thing. Im a huge Jordan fan just like everyone else and seeing Kobe sometimes brings back good memories.

i used to be bothered by it when he was younger, because it was like he thought if he imitated all the meaningless things he would be just as good. but he is the closest thing to jordan as a player and as a-train said, he's imitated some good qualities like defense.

the walk still bothers me though.

When he wins Six rings without the most dominant player in the league (he won 3 with him) than he can be the closest thing to MJ. It doesn't matter b/c Lebron will surpass anything Kobe does.

I'm sure you feel the same way with all the bashing of the Jazz that's gone on around here. :)

Can we at least wait until he wins a playoff series without Shaq before annointing him the next MJ? He's a great player, probably the best individual talent in the league. But the collective nationwide fellatio of Kobe because he all of the sudden realizes there are four other players on the court has been nauseating. If he'd realized that back in November, they wouldn't have to worry about playing a possible game 7 on the road.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice all this

    My contribution:

They both cheated on their wives

    Jordan with Juanita

Kobe with Vanessa (at least I think that's her name, you guys know the hispanic chick)

MJ should get royalties for all the moves Kobe stole from him

You don't see anyone doing the DREAMSHAKE?
Thats cause no one can do it like the original!

umm, there's alot of people that imitate Jordan, When I was a kid I imitated Jordan playing basketball too. The only difference is that Kobe is good enough to look like Jordan.

Thats so true...I've seen players like KG try and do it and it looks like a stiff person trying to dance...when Hakeem did it, it was so fluid and smooth

I think the dreamshake is the 2nd most unstoppable move in nba history behind kareem's skyhook, although i remember seeing hakeem block the skyhook a few times back in the mind-1980s, which was the only time i ever saw it get blocked

read what it says about the dreamshake in Hakeem's wikipedia entry (the dreamshake has its own section) Although, I disagree with what it says about the dreamshake & KG....KG's feeble attempts at recreating the dreamshake are pathetic:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hakeem_Olajuwon

Tinman, I know you dont like soccer, but that's where the dreamshake originated according to the dream himself:

    http://www.nba.com/allstar2006/program_olajuwon.html

Olajuwon explains, “The Dream Shake was actually one of my soccer moves which I translated to basketball. It would accomplish one of three things: one, to misdirect the opponent and make him go the opposite way; two, to freeze the opponent and leave him devastated in his tracks; three, to shake off the opponent and giving him no chance to contest the shot.”
