I just had my first cup of coffee today, after having quit drinking it six years ago. Man it tasted good.

One of the reasons I tried quitting coffee is because I feard that it would take more and more coffee to keep me awake as my body slowly builds up tolerance to caffeine.

I wonder how long everyone here has been drinking coffee, and whether you noticed a significant increase of your caffeine consumption over the years to compensate for the tolerance.

Right now, just one half teaspoon worth of instant coffee can keep me up for the whole day. I wonder how long before I'm downing 3-4 cups of Starbucks espressos per day....

I appreciate the taste of a fine exotic or a french roast, but I can't drink it.
Believe it or not it puts me to sleep,as I'm hyperactive.Beyond that it kind of messes with my stomach too.

If two doesn't do it for you, have you tried to ramp it up to 4, 5, or 6? :)

Gave up coffee and caffeinated drinks about 5 or 6 years ago. It's easier for me to stay awake without coffee now. I'm usually wired (3-4.5 hours of sleep a night). I have issues. :)

Wow, how can you get by with that amount of sleep? I hope it is not due to the problems we cause you on the clutch bbs. ;)

I need my morning coffee to get me in the zone when I go to work. Coffee motivates me and gets my brain working at 100 mph. I probably get 50% more work done when I'm on the juice.

If I drink coffee, I can smell it when I pee.

    Seriously.

Coffee is a good thing. I'm not a morning person. If I want to be alert enough to communicate verbally with people, I should drink some. It clears my head. Also good for perking back up later when you're sleep deprived, or for nights when you have to stay up late.

The negative side: can scratch the stomach (though not as badly as those energy drinks). Tolerance... but I've never built up that big of one. Mainly, I have to make sure I don't drink too much at once. I have literally thrown up from drinking too much coffee. I need to alternate it with something like Gatorade or water.

Coffee and Rolaids: a teacher's best friends.

I've had all sorts of expensive coffees and when it comes right down to it - Community medium roast with some Bailey's Irish cream is absolutely the best thing on the earth.

A normal morning is at least 2 cups of coffee (strong) with half and half ~ definitely gets me going.

    Coffee gives me a boner.

    Sometimes it gives me diarrhea.

It's very awkward to have diarrhea and a boner at the same time.

I feel more like a human being after my first cup of the day. Though if there's something really urgent in the morning, my body seems to get along without it. Perhaps adrenaline is a decent substitute for caffeine :).

Cant drink coffee, after more than a cup I get the heart race thing going on.. and I really dont like it.. I'll have a softdrink around 10 am to give me a boost and sometimes another with lunch, thats about it for large amounts of caffeine for me...

I try not to drink it too much because I already have a high tolerance for caffeine. The effects differ. Usually it doesn't do too much. Sometimes I will get queasy stomach, and slight paranoia and dred without the energy boost. Sometimes I will get the energy boost with the stomach and paranoia side effects. Sometimes I just get the energy boost. It is pretty random for me.

When I am camping though, I start off the day with a cup or two of coffee. I love making it over a campfire, and it tastes so good out in the cold, crisp, morning air. It is the best.

I am not a morning person, so coffee makes me feel happy to be alive, or something like that. I just wish I could take it intravenously, a caffeine drip would be just the ticket.
