I believe the world will end with a catastrophic world war where every country is fighting for themselves and there are no allies after there is a severe shortage of something. I don't know why but for some reason I've always wondered about the end of the world.

The world will end if: -Vanderbilt wins the SEC Championship and Baylor takes the Big 12 crown. -The Clips win the NBA championship -A Democrat comes along who supports tax cuts and wants to cut govt. spending other than defense. -Texas ever beats Oklahoma under Bob Stoops. The song that fits the Stoops/Texas relationship is the Rolling Stones "Under My Thumb." -When Republicans actually grow some balls and quit being led around by the Democrats. In that case, it will be:

A large, planet killing meteroite or comet that would have been prevented if we had surged into space and developed our technology quickly enough to discover and find the means to push them away from the path that leads to our destruction. I just hope it doesn't happen when my kids and any grandchildren and great-grandchildren we might have are around. Right now, that's the best I can hope for... that and some luck.
You didn't say the end of civilization. He’s right, the only thing that will take the earth out is super nova.

I think civilization as we know it will end when we come into contact with E.T.I.L., especially if they are hostile. There is nothing that will bring people together like a common adversary. Once we are dealing in some way with societies from other planets and/or star systems, the people of Earth will probably function as a single governmental unit.
And here we have an example of the symbolic language used in apocolyptic literature. The world will end with the 2nd coming of Christ, judgement day, that sort of thing, which my friend said is going to come if the Red Sox meet the Cubs in the series. (He hates both teams) Gotta admit that would be pretty cool. I need to go to confession just in case it does happen. (or I get hit by a car).
