Ok I just bought a laptop from my friend, and the computer is register to him.

So I'm trying to change the registered name

I googled it and came up with this:

    1. Run "regedit.exe" from the "Start" menu.

    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion.

    3. In the right pane you should see the string RegisteredOwner. Double-click this to change the registered owner name.

    4. Do the same for RegisteredOrganization - double-click this to change the registered organization name.

    5. When done, close the Registry Editor. You will need to close and re-open the System Properties to see your changes.

But ALL I see are these:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    HKEY_USERS
    HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG

and I looked through all the folders but no RegisteredOwner.

    I'm running WINDOW XP PROFESSIONAL

    The computer name?

Isn't that under My Computer then right click on it then click properties... and there's a computer name there? Is that what you're talking about?

From what you posted, it seems like you didn't follow the directions or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you said you did.

    1) Start Regedit. You should see the folders you mentioned.
    2) Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder on the left (double-click it or there may be a plus sign to the left of it to expand it - I forget)
    3) Now look for a SOFTWARE folder on the left side... expand that
    4) Now look for a Microsoft folder on the left side... expand that
    5) Now look for a Windows NT folder... expand that
    6) Now look for a CurrentVersion folder... left-click on that folder to select it. This will cause a bunch of values to appear on the right side/pane of the regedit tool. Find the values you need, "RegisteredOwner" and "RegisteredOrganization" and do as instructed in what you typed in your initial post.
