F*cking moron. When will people learn that when the instructor says, "Don't drink the unknowns" he means it?!? Who the hell would want to drink anything from a chemistry lab anyway?
What's the other chem lab classic in school? Teacher: "Don't shove a paper clip into the outlet you will electrocuted." And it happens every year.
have to say I was some what guilty of something like that. I remember once my cell charger wasn't working correctly, so impulsively I licked the receiving end of it for some reason ( it was 4 o'clock at in the morning, I woke up to use the bathroom, check the time on my cell, realize the battery was low.......) and next thing I know, a shock went through my body. Luckily nothing really happened but did give me quite a scare. I know I know, I should change my moniker
I too was the victim of such an incident, except mine was actually an electricity project. It was to build a mock house with a real lights and fans, etc etc. well we forgot our big car battery, so the teacher said we could use some other source, well we used the wall outlet, and it was working fine, but then part of the project was to check if we could run it if the power went out, and if it could run on a generater(12v battery) well we did something wrong, and i never pulled the wires out the outlet and the next thing you knwo we hear a big pop, and the lights on the whole top half of the school go out, and the fire alarm starts going off. it was fun, and i didnt get in any trouble, but my partner almost peed his pants. and we did have to pay for the paint job on the physics class wall, it was all black ... nonetheless, it was a great experiance..
I was in high school chemistry and we used clay crucible to heat stuff up. I remember someone behind me said, hey, pick this up. There was a crucible on the ground. So I leaned over and picked it up. They had heated it up and placed it on the ground. Doh. Didn't think anyone would do something mean like that! But they got in a bit of trouble and I got some bad blisters on my hand but I only held it for about half a second or less. I do recall hearing them yell at me when I was really close to it, but I was more focused on completing the task at hand, so to speak.
I can't lie - I used to take bets from people that I wouldn't stick electrical wiring into outlets to blow them out. I used to go around blowing out sockets/circuits. You couldn't get me to do that now if you paid me $1000 "per kaboom". Something about wising up as you get older I guess. We used to play with pure sodium and magnesium as well. Chemistry labs and curious kids just don't mix.
Today's retro Calvin and Hobbes cartoon is strangely appropriate: http://www.ucomics.com/calvinandhobbes/
