So every now and then I will contemplate various ideas: enhancing, improving, or thinking of an entirely new device/service. Problem is I don't know how to further develop such ideas. Of course the next step is putting together a buiness plan, but even this is a bit daunting.

Another obvious question: How would I get support or funding?

Who has experience with project development?

I'm interested to know as well.

I've had several ideas in the past that someone later thought of and probably got rich off of.

I have no idea how one goes about such things.

Same here. I am sitting on a gold mind. Just seems so hard to get the wheels in motion right.

Tony Robbins has a course that you could do in 3 easy installments for $19.95.

I think he's on right now.

You don't have to be too detailed, but provide a bit more information.

Something involving a patent - product design?

Improvement in a business process or development of business to fill a market niche that is currently undiscovered or underserved?

An innovative marketing strategy for an existing product - service?

Have you identified existing companies that would be either interested in your idea - concept or would be potential competitors?

Probably gold mine rather than gold mind.

to mango's post: the things that I have personally in mind involve filling an untapped market moreso than, say, a business strategy. I suppose contacting a company that makes the product or similar products would be worth pursuing, however there's always the chance they just don't care and you're SOL to an extent.

Patents is a whole other ordeal -- not something I would be looking into.

Is it a potential market that is Strong on branding? Or more commodity driven?

Producers tightly control the distribution channels or they are open to a broker representing them?

The barriers to market entry are low or high?

Making and selling fishing lures would have much lower barriers than building an oil refinery and selling various distillates.

Get an account at ideablob.com and post your ideas. If their professionals and lurkers/users think the idea is worth pursuing, they'll vote for it, and Advanta will give you up to $20,000 to start your business. The site was meant for young people; I think an 8 year old won one month. But they don't get many ideas from older guys because they already have jobs.
