    1. Rent DVD
    2. Put in PC
    3. ??????
    4. Profit

actually I am sure there are plenty of guides you can follow online. I used to use www.doom9.org way back in the day.

Simple way of doing is to download dvddecryptor and then use dvd shrink to compress the movie down and then burn.

^--thats if its a commercial dvd

if you are just trying to copy a dvd of a home movie then its just a simple dvd->dvd burn your burning software should do pretty easily.

I think "FixVTS" is step 1a. This is the entire procedure I use.

Before, first I tried DVD-Shrink, and if that didn't work alone I would do DVD Decrypter, and if that didn't work, I would do RipIt4me with FixVTS, then it would DVD-DECRYPT, then DVDShrink, which auto-magically burned it onto a blank.

Now, it's all about the DVDFab.

So far, folks has assumed you wanted to make an illegal copy of an encrypted DVD. Is it an encrypted DVD or one you have made yourself? Plenty of programs (e.g. EZ CD Creator) will handle your personal DVDs.

If you are not trying to copy a copyrighted DVD with copy-protections schemes built into it, then any regular DVD burning software will work, like (ahem) Nero Burning Rom.

However, since this is always the first thiing people try, and it does nto work if the DVD is copyrighted, and the next thing people do is then go online and ask 'How do I copy a DVD?', then the natural assumption is that you are trying to copy something which is protected.

You are perfectly within your rights to do so, if you own the original, *which I will assume you do*. As, of course, you know as well as everyone else does, copying a copyrighted disc that you do not already own is just slightly illegal.

Assuming you are within your rights to do so, then the next question is, do you want to do it the easy way, or the hard way?

I recommend the easy way. Very simple. Just go to Slysoft dot com.

    Buy AnyDVD and CloneDVD2.

Those are the only two things you will need to make your backups.

While I agree that they should be within their rights to copy the original for backup purposes if they own the original, technically, it is a violation of law to even make copies of your own DVDs. I think it is essentially O.K. to make a backup copy of your owned DVD, but you cannot circumvent the encryption to do so (or something like that).

In other words, I THINK it is O.K. to play the DVD and capture the output and then save it (similar to what the imtoo software does), but not O.K. to circumvent the encryption to do so.
