I was introduced to it by a friend my freshman year in high school back in the .com days. Read the front page for news for about a year before looking into the bbs. Lurked for at least another year before I started posting. So, how did you come across this bbs?
I stumbled across it in the summer of '99. I think I did a search for Rockets sites and this puppy popped up. After lurking until March of '02, I finally got the nerve to register. If it had occured to me that I could register and not post, I would have had an earlier incept date. Some of the members have done that and have 25 posts in 5 years. (the smart ones!) I think I'm up to some ungodly posts-per-day number now... it's an addiction. (but I'm still frightened of Mango, dammit... and I always thought Behad was Captain Ahab's first cousin or somethin'... now I know he's a brisket connoisseur and an unlikely whale hunter gettin' ready to spear my azz! )
Had Webtv back in the day and was unable to listen to Rockets games with that (didn't have DirecTv yet) so I did a search for Rocket's web sites. Found CC.com and saw it had a chat room. Went there during a game. Only a few people in the room, maybe 3 or 4 (RoCkO, keeley, rockHEAD, Antisonic, maybe a few others). It seemed like everyone in there was watching the game and commenting on it. Eventually it turned into a PBP thing, which was great for me. I went to the chat room for almost every Rocket's game for 2 years, or was it 3? Antisonic used to do most of the PBP back then and was very good at it, rockHEAD did a great job as well. I can't thank those guys enough Never used to post on the BBS until I ran into Rocketgirl in a MSN basketball chat room. She told me to just dive right in, so I did.
The Steve Francis trade. You guys had me really excited about Harrington, Dickerson and Carr for a moment there Like Deck -- been around a lot longer than you might think...only registered when i had to...now i can't shut up
Found it during the Jason Collier draft I think... Was just looking to read up on some profiles of some players, and I didnt find the board till way after the season started... and never registered, read on a friends old sn sometimes, but he got banned for some reason... This season, I got real bored, and wanted to talk to some intelligent HTown fans, not some scrubs that like the lakers and Jordans DC over here.... I think i hit the jackkpot
I found it when I was looking for some of the old Rocket players on my Dreamcast I had bought it at launch day (9/9/99) and soon after that I signed up for the internet service it provided (ATT worldnet) and I found this site (toward the end of 99) and visited probably around 2-4 times a month. I really didn't explore the site much, just the players area and I was hesitant to join the forum because of the whole registering thing. Now I'm a daily visitor and a regular in the chat
i forget. i think i originally came here to curse you guys out for somethin you did on the grizzball.com boards. i forget though - i think a bunch of you were trolling there or somethin. anyways - i'm here now!
I think I found it in '98, don't recall exactly how, but it may have been someone mentioned it on the once-active Rockets newsgroup (which was headed downhill because the cream was headed to clutch's site). I checked the newsgroup some months later a few stragglers wanted to know where everyone went. I took a summer break ... think the redesign went up in what, March 99? I re-upped in September, 1999.
A friend kept talking about how much he enjoyed it. So I checked it out and I liked it. The rest is vegan history.
I found out about it back when it was Clutchcity.com back in maybe 98-99 season. After i saw that they had a "major annoncement" in which they merged the .com address with Rivals, I thought that was it. But my cousin told me that it was clutchcity.net after a few months later and glad he did. I didnt start posting in forums until I registered in 2001 and have been hooked since.
I found it back in 96 I believe. I used to read cc.com during my lay over between classed in college. I didn't even realize there was a message board until around the middle of '00. I lurked in the GARM until I found the hangout in 2002. Then I registered and started posting.
Joined: Aug 1999 Member: #698 Started really missing home about the summer of 1998 and just got my first computer so I started looking for anything Houston. This was the second site I found. Lurked for about a year before I got up the nerve to join. Found the Hangout right away and have been here since. Ah the hangout! Only about 40 or 50 people posted at the time. It was really cool to feel like you were part of a secret
Friends told me there was a website that has a sound about Yao (The Yao Ming Sound by Chance), and that's how I got to this site. Never knew it exsit before that.
I found clutchcity.com in '97 or '98 through the use of search engines, etc. I just read the articles for years before I started posting in '02. Did anyone here go to the old Nerdworld Rockets site back in '95 or so?
www.saveourrockets.com The site is gone but not forgotten. I really believe Jeff, Clutch, et al helped save me from having to move to Louisville. Thanks again guys.
I knew about it when it first came out and I think you could roam around as a guest. So that was high school. I loved in college being a guest on the board and reading the latest goings on about the Rox, going through the history etc. etc. That was around '99. Then I went off and traveled around Europe, came back, didn't have an internet connection, and then finally Senior year I got an internet connection and signed up, because I forgot how to do it as a guest. Didn't post anything for awhile and knew only about the GARM. Which is funny because now I can't get games and I don't feel informed enough to post in there, I just read. Sometimes I feel like a Hangout/D & D poster only and there is this whole world I miss.
