I'm just wondering how a heat wave in Chicago is blamed for the Astros loss at Wrigley yesterday. I mean come on, we're talking about a team from HOUSTON complaining about the Heat! sheesh! after all, It's not the heat, it's the Humidity!
I was here in the midwest yesterday...it was the hottest I have ever felt, and I've lived my whole life in Houston. Who cares if this team is from Houston...first of all, they used to play in the Astrodome, and now play at MMP, and they are both AIR-CONDITIONED. (MMP is closed, guaranteed, if the game-time temp. is going to be anywhere near 90 degrees). They don't practice outdoors, they practice indoors. How many teams have the Astros (or any other team for that matter) played in this weather? Arizona could be consistent, but once again...there's a dome (and its a dry heat). Miami rains a lot, and California is 85 degrees year-round. The Rangers DO NOT have home day games these months, b/c of the heat, and the Astros only have them b/c the roof can be closed. Frankly, MLB should not be playing games in that temp. If they just push back the start time to around 7, they'll be fine. Not only is it a hazard to the players, but you will notice many fans at these games suffering from heat stroke. Also, btw, the humidity up here was horrendous yesterday. Try going to STL, KC, Chicago, etc. for these 3-4 weeks, and it is just as bad (if not worse) than Houston...its just that Houston could be like this for 8 out of the 12 mos per year.
Wasn't it hot on Chicago's side of the field too? This team has no identity, and their panties are bunching up in their vag...s DaDakota
Bottom line is, we lost a 3-2 game that we would have won if we could have just hit a little. The all-star break slowed this team's momentum down a little (although they did win the 1st 3 vs. cincy), but I expect them to start hitting like they did during the run they had before the break. The only reason why I won't be too optimistic about this team is their stance about not trading for players b/c of the strike. The cards didn't really get better with Finley, but you can't fault them for at least trying. If we could get Paul Byrd and/or Randy Winn (giving up Hidalgo, Redding, and another minor league pitcher), we would be in pretty good shape not only this year, but for future purposes (Ward's trade value is diminishing faster than Hidalgo's, so maybe he goes to an AL club first...Hidalgo at least has a cannon for an arm). This team WILL get younger, and faster when Biggio, Ausumus, etc. pack it up, and Burke, Buck, and a new speedy CF come in. Wow, Burke, Buck, Bagwell, Berkman?? Does this team only look for potential stars with a last name that begins with B? Weeeird.
I actually haven't heard anyone blame it on the heat. I heard them say it was hot, but they also said that wasn't an excuse.
