The easiest way is to get the dazzle kit that plugs into the back of your pc. It has an external hub.

It has svideo input, as well as the rca jacks so you can transfer directly from your camera to your harddrive. It's about 100 bucks for the basemodel.

dang. 100 bucks is too much. i used to be able to just plug in my pc cam, go to windows movie maker, and record there, but now it just freezes up.

are you sure that the software that came with the PC cam doesnt have an option for that? it should..Im not sure tho, since I have never used a webcam..

I personally prefer using a capture card with my camcorder..the dazzle unit Heretic mentioned is also a good option..

it freezes....then maybe you shoudl uninstall movie maker and try reinstalling it...I woulod try that first..then google for another option..

my logitech camera allows for recording of video... what kind of cam do you have? also check http://www.downloads.com and do a search for webcam software or something similar.

I got kind of a similar issue too.

I went el cheapo way on the one I bought.

"Regularly" $40 micro innovations web cam from office max.

It's fine and all, not the greatest quality, but it is just a webcam.

Anway, I soon realized the software didn't work for XP, and the drivers weren't "compatible" (then came the message warning me of possible errors).

I installed them anyway, worked fine I guess.

The software it came with was a load of crap. It has a button for like a snapshot, but it never really worked.

So I used Movie Maker, and that was fun to work with for a little while, but then the camera got "deleted" from the computer, I reinstalled it, and it won't work in Movie Maker anymore.

All I would really want to do is have a web cam conversation. I've yet to do it, since no one I know either a.) has one and doesn't want to do it, b.) doesn't know of a good place to do a webcam chat, c.) doesn't have Windows Messenger, or d.) doesn't have a webcam.

If anyone wants to see if it'll work, I'll set one up.

And can anyone suggest good software, or hosting places for web chats that have continuous frames uploaded instead of the 6 fpm crap from some places? I tried Yahoo Messenger, but it still wouldn't work well; something to do with my firewall possibly (?)
