Okay, I have a problem with my computer. I'm running Windows XP and I have Earthlink as an ISP.

It seems like almost every time I am on the internet my computer will just all of the sudden re-start. The computer will run all day without doing anything crazy (like just suddenly restarting) then I will sign on the internet and 10 minutes later it will restart.

Nothing is ever really harmed, but this is extremely annoying and I'd like to fix it if I could...Like I said, it only seems to happen when I'm online...

Check your power supply. It may have a short...I have seen this happen before. This happened to my home pc last week. But it wouldnt happen only while I was on the internet. It would just happen randomly.

I had an employee who had the exact same problem with his computer. Turns out, he had a virus that was causing the problem. He got his HD washed and had to reinstall some stuff. Hasn't had the problem since.

However, like MoBalls said, check your power supply.

Have you installed any new drivers recently?

I would check the power supply as the other posters said. I would also vacuum the case out pretty good. I had the same problem with my computer spontaneaously rebooting. Turned out it was the dust bunnies inside the computer that was causing it. After a good cleaning it hasn't happened since.

Yes, I would say that is quite a problem. Fortunately reformatting and installing Linux should take care of it ;)
