I've heard this guy is probably only 6-9 and I know he's real skinny. If that's the case, I don't know why everyone is so excited about getting him. ------------------
From what I can see of various sites, he appears to be about 225-230 lbs. ------------------ "Light travels faster than sound, so some people appear to be bright until you hear them speak." -- Brian Williams (now Bison Dele) commenting on Isiah Thomas.
Didnt he play against the NBA team in the summer? When they had a exhibition of Ncaa players vs Nba. I think I saw him playing and from what I rememeber he was doing really well. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
I asked that question to the 3 guys on the BBS who are from Ohio and seem to have watched him live the most. No one recalls there being known reports questioning his height, but one guy (I believe 4chuckie??) said he has stood next to Johnson and that it is likely Johnson isn't 6'11 as OSU says. He guessed Ratliff's build....6'10 [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited June 07, 2001).]
I've played alot of pickup ball against many NBA players and most guys aren't actually their listed height. Shandon Anderson listed at 6'6 is more like 6'4 to 6'5, Antonio Daniels listed at 6'4 is pushing 6'3, Bo Outlaw listed at 6'8 is more like 6'7. One of the few NBA players who is actually their listed height is Shaquille Oneal, when your actually on the court with this guy his size almost doesnt look real. ------------------
One NBA superstar player I know for sure isnt his height is Jason Kidd. It was around 2 years ago I saw him at the Galleria. It was late at night and most of the Phoenix team was at the bar watching a college basketball game. I talked to Jason Kidd, really nice guy. But he isnt 6'4. Because Im 6'4 and when he stood up he was about 2 inches shorter. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Ken Johnson does have a lean build but is very strong. Like Theo Ratliff, he may only be about 230, but he has a lot of strength. Tacoma brought up a good point the other day differentiating strength from bulk and discussing how Rodman wasnt necessarily very bulky but was very strong. Similar applies to KJ, I'd be happy if the Rockets draft him. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Sorry guys I would have responded sooner but I had to get a haircut today! KJ weighed 225 coming into this year. I don't think the weight will be too much of a problem, he has gotten bigger each year. He was manute Bol like thin his freshman year (honestly probably just below 200 lbs). According to the coaches he has been working out hard prepping for the draft workouts so I would guess he may be 235 now. I've can't really question his height. If he is much smaller than 6'10 then it's a consistent problem, because I've never saw too many people much taller than him on the court. I would guess the 6'10 is legit. KJ is athletic and can, and will, carry more weight eventually in the NBA. He will never be big, but I like the Ratliff comaprison. Same typoe of build, same typre of defensive presence, and they both needed alot of help offensively. I get pumped up every time I talk about KJ! I will be the happiest poster on this board if we get him.
My pesonal opinion though I know others will disagree is that Ken Johnson will have a better NBA career than Brendan Haywood. My main beef with Haywood is that he is lumbering on his feet and not at all nimble. I hold the opinion that lateral movement is one of the more important aspects for big man success in the NBA. In addition, Haywood is very mechanical in his moves and just does not have any real fluidity. I feel that the Rockets choices of big men will come down to Johnson and Woods. It wouldnt surprise me if they go with Johnson considering according to CD's quote that he has developed a nice perimeter shot. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
