comments ?? Any superstars in the making ? We were all over Moiso last year, looks like Rudy did the right thing in passing on him and acquiring an extra pick this year. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? We were also (myself included) hot to move up to get Stromile Swift. He seemed to have a forgettable year. I think we did well with Collier and this year's Milwaukee pick instead of Moiso. Who else would have done better? The kid at Seattle from Oklahoma State or the kid from MSU now with Toronto... I forget their names. ------------------ Time is a great teacher-- only problem is it kills all its pupils. PowerbizOnline.com [This message has been edited by RichRocket (edited May 01, 2001).]
Mason or Peterson. I don't know, I kind of expected a starter at #9. The fact that Rockets were rarely in the lotto got me excited. I'm glad we didn't give up the farm to get Swift though. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Well, all the "experts" said it was going to be a weak draft, I guess they were right. Looks like the only players who will even come close to being "stars" are Miles, Alexander, and Miller. I think that in time Mihm, Swift, Fizer, D. Johnson (damn, I wanted the Rocks to get him), Mason, Mo Pete, and Crawford will emerge as well. Nice amount of decent players, but very few with "star" potential. I get the feeling that Martin is the new Joe Smith. And keep an eye out for "Speedy" Claxton, that kid CAN PLAY! I just hope he comes all the way back from the knee injury. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Live (edited May 01, 2001).]
I don't know why everybody is dogging Swift. He was raw coming in; I don't think he can be expected to do anything in first season or two. Besides, playing for the Grizzlies can't bring out the best in a player. The experts did say it was a weak draft, but they said the same about the year before, which was probably the best draft in a decade. I'm surprised they're saying this coming draft is good; I thought they made their living criticizing stuff. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
I think the draft seems weak because none of the picks were made to make an immediate impact. Everyone in the lottery except Martin and Fizer was drafted as a project. Compare that with past drafts, that would be an above average draft. I think this will eventually be a pretty good draft. Not as good as this one, which is why Rusy made the right move in trading into this draft. ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer? Join now! Yeah, but Martin was the #1 in an overall weak draft class. Smith's draft included Garnett among other pretty good players. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion
You cant evaluate a draft based on one year, especially when the core talent is extremely young. Darius Miles appears to be on his way to stardom as many of us expected. Stromile Swift still should be a stud in this league but just needs time and patience, same goes for DerMarr Johnson. Marcus Fizer would have been able to produce a lot better this season had he not been played out of position. Chris Mihm showed some promising performances but simply hit the injury bug. Mike Miller should develop into a solid wing player but may not be able to show it if he ends up playing behind Hill and McGrady. Last yr's draft does not have the talent of this one, but I think its too early to call it an all out bust. There should still be plenty of productive NBA players from last draft. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
I guess sandwiched between the Franchise/Odom and this draft, 00' could look like a bad year. This years draft looks like it has alot of players with a high ceiling, and it is deep. But how many of these guys can help next year ? I mean a 15 pt. 6 reb. guy ? Battier ? Maybe Troy Murphy ? ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ?
