Watching Yao get destroyed tonight by Bargnani and Bosh brought back bad memories against Boozer/Okur. Granted, everyone knows Yao isn't blessed with the quickest of feet but surely the Rockets need to have a plan to counter such players.

If you think about it, almost every team in the west has someone a nimble big who can shoot the outside J.

    Ideas or proposals anyone?

We aren't, we haven't done it since Yao has been here. Why start now?

this is the least of our problems

maybe we should tackle this issue when this team starts caring...

if they dont care, why should we?

I hate to break this to you. It will NEVER get addressed. Daryl Morey is on record in the media that height is NOT a component of $Ball. Sorry. Happy 2009 anyway.

Not many teams have such players. In the West, assuming we make the playoffs, only the Jazz have perimeter big guys. Sure some others can hit the occasional 15-ft jumper, but most other big men in the West are lowpost players.

Without opening a hole can of worms and attracting the Yao fans /haters, this is really why Yao isn't suited to be the number one option/superstar.

A superstar cannot be so obviously deficient in an area of the game where he becomes such a liability.

That steal by Ukic where he just went up and grabbed it was just embarrassing.

The whole team got owned! was unprepared, lack energy and jet lagged. You can tell the game was over by the 2nd half.

put Artest on that perimeter oriented big. He obviously is quick, strong and big enough to guard them

The Lakers have BOTH Odom and Gasol.
    The Suns have Amare.
    Mavs - Dirk

    Odom can't hit a J lol

he was hot early in the year but his long range shot has disappeared recently. Teams are more than welcome to back off him especially in the 4th.

    Hornets- West.

and to a lesser extent, Bonner for spurs.

In addition to the list by Dkny thats 6 teams in the playoffs.

There is also portland with aldridge and denver with martin.

And the list goes on, randolph at clips.

What does height or $Ball have to do with it? You don't need to be a 7 footer to guard bigs that shoot from the perimeter. Scola, Landry, or even Hayes are enough for that job. As long as you stay right in front of them, close out, and put a hand in their face, you've done your job. Bruce Bowen was able to lock down Nowitzki, and he's 6'7.

Besides, you could put Kevin Garnett next to Yao and the problem still remains. If we're facing a team with two bigs that can shoot from the perimeter, like Utah when they start Okur and Boozer, the guy Yao (you know, the 7'6 guy) is defending is going to get his open looks.

If Yao is forced to guard a good three pointer shooter, I think we have to either take him our or go zone. If its just a guy who shoots the 15-18 footer, then we live with the open jumpers and hope Yao positively impacts the game in other ways.

First...Bowen NEVER guards Nowitski. Watch the game. Defending Nowitski with Dirk puts Duncan on Josh Howard. Seldom to never happens.

Further...if Player A is set for a perimeter shot and Player B is rotating to him...what advantages to Player B can we attribute that would statistically lead to greater success?

Height and speed. End of discussion.
