I believe this is VERY doable.

He can be Yao Ming's bodyguard and can serve as the team enforcer.

Cato is more of an enforcer. Kurt Thomas is EXTREMELY Foul prone, and I don't like his attitude on the court. He argues with the refs too much too.

It's funny how people are so quick to say no with THomas, and yes to Grant.

Thomas is a younger and cheaper version of Grant.

I would trade for him in a heartbeat.

First of all, I'm sure that MOST of the board would NOT agree to acquiring Grant once they realized his age and contract.

Second of all, Kurt Thomas is not HALF the defensive player brian Grant is. He's also smaller than Brian Grant. So basically, he's younger, cheaper, but proportionally worse.

If they take MoT for him, I'd do it. But no WAY we give up Cato.

Thomas is better than EG right now... I have my doubts regarding EG being much better than Thomas later on.

Cato has as good of a chance out of any center in the league to guard a powerhouse like Shaq. Including D-Rob, Timmy-D, and even Yao Ming, Ilgauskas, or and even Ratliff.

There is only 1 Shaq... There are plenty of PFs in the West who destroy us.

There are plenty good PF's in the west. I agree. But you'll also agree when I say we dont have any good PF's at all.

I like Thomas because he plays tough (dirty?) and has that crazy look on his face. He is the classic enforcer type of player.

oh please... both of these players are not as physical as "crazy eyes", especially EG.

I think he's rather well IMO as an undersized center guarding the likes of Shaq and Yao or the opposing teams best frontcourt player.

    exactly, kidrock.

here's how the rockets can obtain thomas. from ESPN INSIDER.

Kurt Thomas: Several teams, including the Mavs, would love to add his interior toughness to the team. However, the Knicks aren't doing anything with Thomas unless they can get some size in the middle and a young prospect as part of the deal.

i would get kurt thomas. his inside game is waaaay better than eg and moTs. damn i know eddie griffin is young but damn, he needs to develop an inside game, fast instead of throwing up them grenades he calls 3 point shots. and mo t is waay too inconsistent. i miss the old mo taylor that used to play for the clippers. he was alot better back then. what happened????

Thomas would provide hustle and toughness. Something lacking throughout the squad.

It is very do-able. Thomas is an old-school enforcer, one of few in the league. He would cost Cato +. We could also perhaps move someone else we don't want, ala Mooch for Charlie Ward's expiring contract, or Mo Taylor or Cat for Spree. This deal would provide the necessary toughness the Rockets need and cost us only backups. Yes, Thomas is foul prone - but - exchanging fouls for fouls is ok. I'd rather get 25 good minutes from Thomas than 15 from Cato for similar money. That's obviously more productive use of your cap. Thomas can play alongside Ming and Cato can't.
If we can move a problem like Mooch or Cat or Taylor too - geez, better and better.

How about Thomas and Spree for Cato and Taylor?

How about Thomas and Spree and Ward for Cato, Taylor, Mooch?

I will always throw in Cat, as required, but I'd like to exchange him and Rice for a shooter.

This is a beneficial deal. Not as good as Brand or SAR on paper, but I don't know if those deals are possible.
