Man...what a difference some playing time can make. Tony just hit a double against the Expos to tie the club record of the Astros for hitting streak at 23 games. It was a sweet double, too. He brought his average up from the .200s to the upper .270s. This guy can hit...he is a hitting machine. I'm happy for the guy because I know he wasn't getting any consistent playing time early on but now you have to keep him in...he hit's everything. He can call a good game behind home plate, too.

WOW! Go Tony! Go Tony! Go Tony!

Update: The Astros are pounding the Expos. The Expos pitcher looks like he has good stuff, too. It's just an excellent job of team hitting.

He is strictly a pull hitter, but, yes, he can hit. Melusky has more power and youth on his side.

We Need Pitching!!! Theres nothing wrong with the hitting (except that they waited until after the all-star break to start hitting)

Sorry Bob, but Tony is NOT a strictly a pull hitter. I have seen many, many games that Tony pushed the ball to right field. In fact, until this year you could almost count on opposite field hits from Tony, including home runs. I think this recent surge in his hitting could be attributed to his decision to try to pull the ball more, but over his career, he has not been a pull hitter.

    From ESPN:
Eusebio is a patient hitter with a quick inside-out swing that makes him an excellent hit-and-run candidate.

    and....

Because of his approach, he rarely drives the ball with much extra-base power.

Sorry Bob, but he is not a pull hitter. Go here: http://espn.go.com/mlb/profiles/profile/4722.html and click on the hit chart applet.

My bad Behad. He is not a pull hitter. He is a Punch and Judy hitter. For some reason I was thinking he was a left-handed hitter. Sheesh!!! Its been awhile since I have seen an Astro game. Too long I guess [IMG]

Not only did Eusebio have a great game (3-4, HR), but Elarton continues to put himself in Cy Young contention. I know, he'll never win it, or come close, but at 15-4 he may get some votes.

One of the great things about Eusabio's streak at this point in the season, is that it will make him a good trade commodity.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what he's done -- and he has put himself in the team record boooks. But, he's having a good streak in the latter part of a very average career. He's not a part of the long term picture for the Astros.

Melusky has had an amazing rookie year -- and he keeps getting better. I have the feeling he will be the catcher to take the Astros over the next several years. Once Eusabio is off his hot streak, expect to see Melusky back as the #1 catcher.

The team doesn't need two hot catchers, and Melusky is going to help the team a lot more in the long term. I would expect Eusabio to be shopped around as a trade possibility for pitching during the off season.

What a pleasant surprise Tough Tony's streak has been. I believe he was the last Astro (OK maybe Bogar) that I would have thought would go on a hitting streak like this!

I think Eusebio should be an Astro for life. He understands his position with the team, he's been here for awhile, and a decent hitting backup catcher is a good thing to have.
