what u guys think of drafting Steve Blake (Maryland) w/ our 2nd rd pick....from some of the mock drafts i've seen, i see him being picked after our 2nd.....i think he would work nicely w/ francis, since they did play together for 1 season...i think, not sure on that....but blake is a pretty good point, solid defender, and has an avg shot....what u guys think?

So we're going to make Moochie Norris the next Matt Maloney and pay him $3+m a year for the next 5 years as he sips Coronas in the Caribbean?

We have enough youth. Let's take advantage of the other ways to build a team - trades, player development, FA signings.

I agree if they find a taker for mooch go for it if not than he still has to go. They need a new backup PG. Mooch does not cut it anymore.

Why are we so worried about the 30-somethingth player in the Draft? Go International, stash the guy until he is ready and Rox are ready for him.

For this coming play-off season (that's '03-'04 Rox fans) use the MCE. Re-sign JPo. Find a creative way to dump out of all four onerous contracts.

I am all for drafting Blake. However, he does lack an offensive game. He can penetrate and dish but thats about it, he needs to have a coach that pushes him and team mates that play on ball movements. He is not an ISO player, he lacks the touch and doesn't have a strong move to the basket. With that said, he plays his heart out and he can lock up almost anybody in college basketball including TJ Ford and Keith Bogans. He thrives on team ball...and doesn't have a huge ego like most NBA players. if we're building around Yao and Steve...Blake would be an excellent choice for us.

If Blake adjusts to the game in time, lets say mid season and we sign Juwan Howard for the mid level exception (I am not sure if we have enough room, granted we resign Posey).

    trade Mobley

fire Rudy...sorry I know hes sick and all but he has had his chance

    hire Jeff Van Gundy

    Waive Moochie and Collier

Hope Nachbar and Maddox turns out to be atleast role players

hope Ming turns into a monster, hope Francis finally gets it, Griffin rebounds and hope for the best for everyone else

Rockets have a 1st round pick. Not a lottery pick, but I believe we'll get atleast one 1st round pick from some trade we made with the Pistons before. I honestly don't know who I'd like to see drafted this year by the Rox though. I don't know what direction they're going into coming next season but I guess a big bodied center would be nice. I like the idea of moving Cato to PF, and think he could fit the role of Otis Thorpe for the Rockets minus those beautiful full court baseball passes that OT was so well known for. That would leave all responsibility to carry the offensive load in the low post for the Rockets for Yao, and I'm not sure he'll be ready to handle that yet. If this year is a sign of his endurance for years to come without getting any rest, Yao might have 60+ solid or excellent games and 20 or so subpar games. But if he is capable of taking that role of being the sole offensive go to guy and excels at it like we know he's capable of for 82+ games, then moving Cato makes sense to me. If we did move him that would force MoT or Griffin to be traded and I'd trade MoT despite his better production over Griffin, but only to release cap space and realizing that Griffin is still a project.

I don't see Cato becoming a 20/10 man. And when did OT actually block shots>? I remember one season when he had a total of 7 blocks. Cato analogy with OT is not correct.

I'm going to throw a name out there that only real college basketball fans will know about...

His name is Uche-Nsonwu-Amadi... A 6'10, 260 PF from Wyoming... He's between a Charles Oakley and a vet. Karl Malone...

Very physical in the paint and can score inside...

Yeah I know we have EG, Taylor, Mingh and Cato...

Out of those guys, do any of them have a real toughness about them??? Yao is still learning the NBA style and EG/Taylor/Cato don't show much of it...

I want that Otis Thorpe/Larry Smith enforcer...

I would love to add a PG but in my opinion, you can always find good PG after the draft... I just don't think we will add anothe PG since we have Norris and Tito Maddox...

I would make sure we keep Posey(he's the key FA we have to worry about)... If we can't keep him then you may have to go SF again...

    Look at it this way...

Stevie and Yao are your 1-2 punch... Right...

Well you have to build around them with good shooters and defensive players...

Whom on the current roster fits that description???

    I can't name more than 5: Hawkins(Def.), Posey(Def.), Griffin(Def.)(though I'm not happy with his offensive development), Rice(shooter) and Nachbar(shooter)... Thats about it...

Everyone else just doesn't fit that description in my opinion... We don't need scorers to add to this team just good role players...

Guys the one thing I do know is that our team is about 2-3 years from being a team that can be mentioned with the Kings, Mavs, Spurs and Lakers...

That's a pretty good take on blake's skills, his shooting range has improved signifigantly over his 4 year term at Maryland though, shooting above 40% from behind the arc this season. So I see hope for improvement in that department to NBA 3pt range. Plus he always seems to make the shots that need to fall.

He also has a little bit of that Jason Williams wildness to his game, throwing passes that at times defy logic and other times astound you with his vision. Having said all that, I'm not sure he's all that much of an upgrade over Tito or Norris next season, although down the line he could end up being more valuable.

Everytime I read the thread title, I feel obligated to remind everyone I was too out of shape to even play in the pick-up game last weekend.

Then I remember you're talking about Steve Blake. :D

I thought we gave away our 2nd rnd pick this year to Denver in the trade that sent Kenny to Sixers and Posey to us? No?

Bryce Drew was a 15th pick! Not a 2nd rounder.
I am not sure what picks Maloney and Price was but I think Blake is a steal with the 2nd round pick.

Now I see what it takes for you to actually post in the Game thread - a case of mistaken identity.

Go back to where you belong man.
