I know that our first priority is a starting PF, but there are some young FA guards out there that should be able to be had on the cheap such as:

    Devin Brown (RFA)
    Greg Buckner (UFA)
    Dan Dickau (UFA)
    Maurice Evans (RFA)
    Brevin Knight (UFA)
    Keith McLeod (RFA)
Wesley Person (UFA) Old guy, still a very effective shooter.
Kareem Rush (UFA) Promising young pup.
    Earl Watson (UFA)

And of course, there are the more expensive players that just might slip through for a bargain price like:

    Antonio Daniels (UFA)
    Chris Duhon (RFA)
    Marko Jaric (RFA)
    DerMarr Johnson (UFA)
    Damon Jones (UFA)
    Jeff McInnis (UFA)
Gary Payton (UFA) Old guy, but still very effective.
Damon Stoudamire (UFA) Can still bring it.
Bonzi Wells (fixing to be released?)

Devin Brown & Greg Buckner would be nice additions, but my 2 favorite players on these lists would be Bonzi Wells & Gary Payton, if they'd sign for cheap.

I think Daniels is going to be a Laker or Cav. DerMarr Johnson interests me a lot as a backup for T-Mac. Damon would be okay at the right price.

Bonzi's actually the last guy I'd want to see in a Rockets uniform. I'm not sure how well his game fits here, especially with his inconsistent outside shooting, and I know his attitude doesn't fit here...

    Devin Brown (RFA) - Nah
Greg Buckner (UFA) - Would be fit the JVG role.
Dan Dickau (UFA) - Up and coming PG
Maurice Evans (RFA) - Leaper, but don't know about his other skills.
Brevin Knight (UFA) - Gets injured too much.
Keith McLeod (RFA) - Underrated PG, but I would go w/ Dickau.
Wesley Person (UFA) - Washed up.
Kareem Rush (UFA) - I would give him a chance. Good bench player...
Earl Watson (UFA) - He would be a nice PG on our squad.

If Dion Glover is back to healthy and performs well in our summer league, then he plus Head is a good enough offseason for the backcourt, IMO.

He shot 47% from the field & 46% from 3pt land last year. He might not be able to play a lot of minutes, but he'd definitely give us a shooter off the bench for 10-15 mpg.

DerMarr Johnson is coming off a minimum contract and there is not a peep from him or his agent in the news. Buckner on the other hand wants more than half the MLE and Denver said they want him back. I think Johnson can be had for LLE or less. Just my thoughts.

I would like Knight. The older of the Knight brothers.

Positives: He was 2nd in the NBA in Assists while playing on the expansion Bobcats. He is very high on assist to turnover ratio. He is a very good defender. He is athletic and quick. He averages 10 pts, 9 assists and 2 steals on a bad team.

Negatives: He is 5'10". He cannot knock down the 3 very consistently. He did get injured a couple of times last season. He is almost 30.
Bernie wants Knight to tutor little Ray. I am not sure if Brevin wants that

Dickau is another strong possibility. He helped the Hornets win a few games. He played great against us. He averaged 12.5 pts. and 5 assists a game. From January through February, He averaged 15 pts and 5 assists.

Devin Brown (RFA) - Plays too out of control.
Greg Buckner (UFA) - Hmm... not a bad idea. I like it.
Dan Dickau (UFA) - Not bad, but I'm not sold on him.
Maurice Evans (RFA) - I love him, but so do the Kings.
Brevin Knight (UFA) - Love him, but wouldn't sign him. This team needs shooters.
Keith McLeod (RFA) - See Brevin Knight.
Wesley Person (UFA) - Ehh... at his size, I'd like a guy who can at least guard a two-guard.
Kareem Rush (UFA) - Could be good, but doesn't seem to want to work. A gamble.
Earl Watson (UFA) - Sure, but Memphis won't let him go.

Antonio Daniels (UFA) - Dear god, how I wish.
    Chris Duhon (RFA) - Meh.
Marko Jaric (RFA) - Sign me up.
DerMarr Johnson (UFA) - If he doesn't break the bank, sure.
Damon Jones (UFA) - I'd like better defense, but he wouldn't be bad.
Jeff McInnis (UFA) - No. He's Jail Blazer through and through.
Gary Payton (UFA) - No. We don't need to get any older.
Damon Stoudamire (UFA) - Ehhhh... if he comes REAL cheap.
Bonzi Wells - A gamble... I'd need to know what kinda green his was scopin' for first.

I really like the idea of Buckner at the shooting guard spot, provided that we make our big splash with Swift, Walker, SAR, DM, or whoever at power forward. Buckner could play plenty at the 2 and is tough enough IMO to spell McGrady at the 3 occasionally. I like it.

I would like Watson and Johnson if they would split the mle or sign and trade. Watson is small, but tough as nails. Johnson might be just hitting his stride and is young enough to go along with McGrady and Ming.

I like the thinkingbecause its not who spends the most, its who spends the best. Watson and johnson to replace Sura and Wesley sounds good to me With Johnson, you have Barry backing him up so it makes sense to me. On top of that, both are in the age range of Ming and McGrady

i dont understand why i see everybody on here is saying no to devin brown. i actually think he would he a great addition to the rockets. he defends extremely well, is very young and is barely hitting his stride as an nba player. would be a great shooting guard for our team to put next to tmac and take some pressure off of him defensively. not only that but he played under coach pop and we all know he doesnt play scrubs. i also hope you guys are not forming an opinion about brown because of what you saw of him in the playoffs...the guy was hurt right before the playoffs if it hadnt been for that he would have played atleast 20 mins a game in the playoffs.

How about Kerry Kittles ? I like him with Earl Watson, on the cheap.

We also could pick up some of those guys that get cut with the Allen Houston rule - Houston and Finley - maybe others later.

I actually like Kittles better than Houston and Finley at this point. I'm still holding out that we can get Swift or AW in a S&T, get Bonzi for the MLE or a little less after they release him, and then get AD in a S&T for Sura or James.

    AD
    Bonzi
    TMac
    Yao
    Swift/AW

    Bench
    Head
Barry/Finley/Kittles (maybe 2 of these three)
    Bowen/that Kentucky kid
    Deke
    Juwon/Gadzuric/somebody from the waived list

I'll pass on Kittles. He was injured for all but 11 games last year &, his FG% & 3PT% have dropped in each of the last 4 years. At 31 years of age, it appears that his game is declining rather rapidly. If a SG can't shoot, then he's of no use to us.

i like a handful of these guys but we are stacked in the backcourt and don't need anyone else right now unless we trade one or two of them. however, brown, buckner, and evans sound the like the best fits to me.
