Well, it's a slow weekend so I thought I would throw another name out there.

Rafer Alston
6'2 • 180 • 29 yrs. old

04-05 Stats:
14.2 Pts/Game
.414 FG%
.357 3pt%
.740 FT%
2.3 Reb/Game
6.4 Ast/Game
1.48 Stl/Game

Ranks #11 in the NBA in Assists Per Game(6.4)
Ranks #18 in the NBA in Steals Per Game(1.48)
Ranks #19 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goals Made(139.0)
Ranks #13 in the NBA in Three-Point Field Goal Attempts(389.0)
Ranks #11 in the NBA in Assists(514.0)
Ranks #18 in the NBA in Steals(118.0)
Ranks #19 in the NBA in Assists Per Turnover(3.02)
Ranks #11 in the NBA in Assists Per 48 Minutes(9.1)

I know he had some problems up in Toronto this season, but JVG has said more than once recently that they have to make bold moves that may effect the chemistry the team had. He would certainly improve our speed and athletism in the backcourt. He played well for SVG in Miami. He gets alot of steals and sets up teammates much better than a lot people give him credit for.

If Toronto and/or Sam Mitchell are sick of him, he may be had for a decent price in trade.

I have discussed him in the past:

http://bbs2.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=90578&highlight=rafer+alston

I don't think he is the type of PG we want, I would rather have a healthy Sura or Mike James now, I changed my mind about Alston after we acquired James, me suggesting Alston back in January was more of a 'desperation' move since we had Rod freakin' Strickland as our starting PG at the time.

Not Skip to my Lou. He is acturally worst than Spree. You all may know what I feel about Spree. I would love to have Brevin Knight.

2nd in NBA - Assists
1st in NBA - Assist to Turnover Ratio
5th in NBA - Steals

He is around 5'10". He will be a FA, but he has said that he wants to stay in NC. They all say that. If Bickerstaff picks up a PG in the draft (Paul or Williams, look for Knight to look at options. Before all of your posts, Bobcats are trying to trade with Portland for the 3rd spot. Portland will not keep the pick. Portland would trade picks with either Hornet and Bobcats and get a future 1st round pick. Hmmm

Overpayed my ass... he is brilliantly underpayed, 3 mill a year for a player like him is a great bargain to say the least.

HUGE NO! Overpaid for his production. Sura/James is fine for now. And we would be even better if we could move James for a S&T Antonio Daniels. But I wouldnt touch Alston.

Alston is a bad defender. Knight is backup. He is a horrible shooter and defender.

But if we were to do a S&T for Marshall we could take Alston if they take Sura. But this is assuming they want to get rid of Alston.

Marshall + Alston for Spoon & Sura + #1 pick.

Agree. He does not seem to be the "team first" type of player that the Rockets are looking for. Additionally he had way to many problems with his coach which tells me a tough coach like JVG could also get to him.

If we are looking for a backup point guard I'd rather get someone like Earl Watson. He's a solid defensive player, good ballhandler, low turnover ratio, 26 yrs old, and will come at minimum contract.

And he's not a head case.

obviously few of you have watched rafer play more than a handful of games, or any at all...

game-game stats

3.5 mill in 2004-2005

24 mill - 6 years

terribly 'overpaid' indeed

Alston & Mike James are nearly identical. Very similiar games & stats. Alston 1 year younger. Both were free agents last year. James got a 3 year deal starting at 3.1M and Alston got a 6 year deal starting at 3.4M.

I don't think Alston is overpaid. I think his attitude could be a problem though but everyone in Toronto seemed to have an attitude problem last year so maybe it was the coach afterall.

3.5m is always too much for a non-star who doesn't play defense.

Alston gambles far too much. He gets some steals, but he gets beats a great deal.

He should've stayed in Miami.
