2007 NFL Draft Thread I guess it's not too early to start thinking about next years draft. Something tells me the Texans won't be taking Adrian Peterson with their next #1 overall pick. Will they trade down for Justin Blalock? Will Carr disappoint again this season so that the Texans will have to take Brady Quinn? It's going to be interesting.
LOL. This cracks me up thinking about next year already. After missing out on a golden opportunity this year I seriously wouldn't be suprised if they did something like that again. We'll just have to wait and see if this zone offense could make DD a 2000yard back. Even if didn't Kubiak thinks highly of this scheme to draft some 7th rounder to "fit" in. IMO Peterson is the better "PURE" running back, but if you ask me i'd rather see Bush play. I was so looking forward to seeing some excitement especially since NO Houston team brings it on offense. Every Houston team seems to just play defense. However the Astros are turning the corner.................
I think Peterson will have a good NFL career, but not a long one because of the way he runs in college.
Championships are won in the trenches. Gary Kubiak knows this. Texans fans SHOULD know this - Carr, Johnson, Dunta - even our best players have been underwhelming given our inferiority at the line of scrimmage. This year's draft theoretically shored that up signficantly. Top DE and 2 potential starters on the OL. If the Texans have another top 5 pick next year, they may go for more of a playmaker type, which makes sense.
Well at least we get to play the Volek-led Titans 2x this year. Maybe Williams will crush him on the first play, and Kerry Collins on the last play, allowing Vince to put down the clipboard and experience the NFL. CNN projects us to pick 8th... Saints 10th Vikings 9th Texans 8th Lions 7th Titans 6th Jets 5th Bears 4th 49ers 3rd Bills 2nd Packers 1st
There will be some players coming out next year that can help the Texans since they have many needs. Brady Quinn, Adrain Peterson, Joe Thomas and Calvin Johnson come to mind. The draft that just passed was not going to solve all of the Texans' needs. The team was 2-14 for a reason, because they lacked consistent play from any area, sans special teams. Its going to take good free agent signings and great scouting to draft the right players to make the Texans a winning team. With the selections of Williams (I wanted to trade down and take D'Brick or Mario) and DeMeco Ryans the Texans have gone a long way in helping shore up their lack of a pass rush. Lets not forget the addition of Weaver at DE as well, and maybe, just maybe Peek and Babin may live up to their potential. The front seven of the defense looks to be a strength for once and the Texans finaly have some depth. I think the third round was the Texans' money round. After waiting four years and four drafts the Texans finally went out and got some OL help. Gordon is a big ol' boy who will probably be the team's RT (I don't care what the Chronicle or Texans say about him being at LT). Eric Winston was one the fans wanted and got and should be a great addition to the OL as the future LT. The second day was uneventful, I was hoping for Ko Simpson or Ashton Youbuty, it didn't happen and took some guys that may or may not contribute. Overall, the Texans had a great draft on paper. They addressed some of their needs and hopefully they will work out and this team will get much better. The team looks to be much better with the free agent acquistions and the draft acquistions and hopefully David Carr has gotten the players needed to help him succeed and show us and everyone why he was taken number one.
I was wondering why they passed on a guy like Ko Simpson and took a tight end who has had several knee injuries. I thought they needed more help in the secondary than adding a 5th tight end.
