With everyone talking about Odom and Lewis, another sf who isn't locked up longterm pops to mind. Marion. He'll want the max when his rookie contract is up, and maybe Phoenix wont want to pay it. I know I'd be a little hesitant to give up all that caproom for Marion when the only other star on the team is Marbury. Would you give up KT + our lotto pick for Marion, knowing that we would have to give Marion the max in a couple of years to retain him? Marion is a good player, but would he be a good fit on this team?
The Suns also have a propensity for an incredible rate of turnover. I'd be suprised if 5 years from now, Marion was still a Sun.
Marion is a stud. Sure, go get em. Starbury, the Nickel and Colangelo deserve each other. Do we have an overpaid ingrate we can send to that "team" in exchange? Actually, I see the Golden State thing looking better and better. I just hope jerry gets squat.
I would LOVE to have Marion on the Rockets, I would even trade Cat for him. Marion is a very very very good player, who plays both ends of the court. DaDakota
Do we want to give up Steve Francis? Besides him, Theres no way in hell we can get a player like Shawn Marion. period
I would put him up there as pretty close to untouchable building block as exists. If I were the Suns, I'd only trade him for something outstanding, like part of a package for a #1 overall/stud/one-of-a-kind type player. He is so efficient at what he does, and doesn't detract from anything in any noticable way that I'd have to be bowled over to trade him. Even if they didn't have Marbury, if I were the Suns I wouldn't trade Marion for Steve streight up, due to concerns I'd have about the migraines, and what I'd consider to be more uncertanty about long term signability.
Marion would fit PERFECTLY with the Houston Rockets. But he is the up and coming star, and an all-out energizer bunny on both ends. The Suns, I would think, would not let him go, and if they had to, I'd think they would require a lot in return.
It's just fantasies talking about Marion on the Rockets team. But he would rock as our SF. Possibly making the Rockets contenders to the conference finals.
Phoenix would laugh so loud the Coyotes in the desert could hear them, if the Rockets came to the Suns and offered Mobley for Marion.
Hell No I wouldnt trade EG for Marion. Marion is a good player but hes not all that good. I think he has the ugliest lookin shot in basketball. Hes just a crazy player that runs around. Marion for Mobley.. is a fair deal.
Marion's free-agency comes next year. maybe we could do a similar deal to what orlando did to get grant hill. that could only work tho if marion wants out of phoenix and wants to come to houston.
i wouldn't give up eddie for marion but i'd definitely listen to the offer. marion's no slouch, that jumpshot may be ugly as hell but it's pretty effective for some reason. i don't see them letting him go anyways.
You guys are vastly overrating Mobley, or are vastly underrating Marion, if you think they are equal caliber players. Marion would be our best rebounder. Mobley would be the backup SG. Hell, he could be the 3rd string SG for the Suns now that they have Penny and Joe Johnson at the SG. Marion is easily one of the top 10 SF's in the league, while Mobley is somewhere around top 20 or so. We would have to at least give them KT and a #1 or something for Marion. Yes, Marion has an ugly shot, but he hits open baseline jumpers pretty well, and he has vastly improved his dribbling and shooting skills. He will be one of the premier SF's over time. I am assuming he has a strong work ethic because he goes 110% on the court, as well as the fact that he has improved his game 10-fold since his rookie year.
Having Marion and Griffin would be a great combo on the glass and for shot blocking purposes. They could be the #1 duo for blocks and rebounds.
Finally, a fair deal! I think the Suns would have to at least consider that trade. However, I think the Suns would force the other team to take on a Googs or Penny, to get a Marion. I think we could land Penny and Marion, for the guys you mentioned, and a throw-in player to match salaries. If we took Penny off of their hands, they would do it.
you said it! The way Marion and Griffin grap boards we would own the boards. and the fact all he's been doing every season is get better and better you can't go wrong bringing in the Matrix!!!
