    What About Murph??

Have any of you guys given consideration to keeping the job in-house and going with Calvin Murphy? The guy seems knowledgable enough and would definitely bring excitement to courtside (the way Rudy used to in the mid 90's). Would he even be interested or would he rather broadcast and eat cookies during timeouts.

Can you imagine his courtside attire? CLASSIC!! Talk about a big ol' pimp. He'd put Mr. Furley to shame.

I wouldn't want this team to be his first job let him come up thru the ranks. I like his Basketball IQ but i'm just not ready to see him be the coach of this team.

calvin seems very intelligent and i've always thought he'd make a nice coach however this isn't the right time to experiment with just anyone.

    Calvin Murphy will be...

Calvin Murphy will be... our new head coach. Put money on it. Les has been saying he wants to work with guys that knows the team very well. Calvin is right on the money in that.

Calvin cant even make into the broadcast booth on time. he couldnt hack 1% of the dedication it takes to be a coach. Way too much responsibility for him to handle.

What's crazy about Calvin (and we've all seen it) is his amazing ability to predict what's going to happen on the court 30 seconds before it does, but whether that's enough reason to make him coach I don't know.

    Larry Brown
    Pat Riley
    JVG
    Calvin Murphy

    In that order.

I would be shocked to see Calvin named coach, but I would never bet against him. Anyone who ever saw Calvin play knows he has a history of overcoming long odds and proving people wrong.

It'd like to see Van Gundy as head coach, but Calvin as an Assistant Coach. Mobley could learn a thing or two about middle-distance shots. Like when to take them instead of 3's!

What are you smokin? I love Calvin as an old time rocket fan, but haven't you seen his play by play skills on tv?

The "pimp-daddy" struggles to put back to back sentences together. I remember when he called Kenny Thomas "The Big Seamstress" and when Bill Worell said what?, Murphy replied because he always finds a seam? He He.

The day Calvin becomes a coach is the day that "Huggie Bear" is elected President

yeah... this team needs an X's and O's guy who can actually coach a team. not just a motivator.
a guy like calvin with absolutely zero coaching experience isn't going to solve any of the problems this team has.

No, I used to think it would be a good idea, but I don't know how much discipline he'd enforce. That as well as how well he is with x's and o's are my main concerns. He does have the player's respect though and I think he could at least relate to the players more than most candidates. But then we wouldn't have the world's best color analyst. As an assistant maybe, but that's way too much of a risk as head coach. Also, I'm not really sure Calvin wants to be head coach just from some reaction I've seen when coaching has been mentioned to him.

Calvin would be a great guy for the job it's just that I doubt he wants to put that kind of pressure on himself. I think he's enjoying broadcasting and isn't looking to place such a burden on himself.

I think Calvin would be a good coach. He would demand Steve and Cat to pass the ball to Yao, and Calvin really knows the team well. I think Les should hire someone in the organitzation like he did with Rudy 11 yrs and look at the success he had so Calvin as the Head Coach is a strong possibility! JVG will go to Cleaveland, Larry Brown will prob. stay with Philly, the only real canidates I see are Mike Dunleavy(considering Atlanta), Paul Silas(wants Charlotte job nxt yr.) and then that leaves you with Calvin Murphy. He would bring excitement to the team he would bring FIRE to this young team the only thing is we would have to hire a assiant coach who is a teacher type, but Cal would relate to the players much more than an outsider!:D
