It's simple....Ibaka flies in on every drive. A way to slow him down and make him think is to burn him with a drop pass to his man when leaves his man to go for the block. We can probably get 8-10 points a game from this.
It only works if our bigs can catch it, but even if they catch it there will always be someone defending it. What I would like to see is a double screen for our guard, penetrate and 1 big roll with him, the guard pass to the other big and than pass to the other guard and than set screen for him, that guard penetrate and shoot it.
We did that a few times this game. Lin did it with a bit of success with Greg & Omer & it sent them to the FT line. Harden did it with a bit of success as well.
This just reiterates that we need to hit our shots from the outside. We are getting destroyed in the paint on both sides. If Harden had made just 2 more of his 3's that were all short, the whole dynamic of the game would have changed. The bigs need to focus on doing well defensively and we should only defer to them if they're wide open or have an easy shot. Greg and Omer have no business dribbling more than 3 times in the paint.
Did you call McHale or the players with this already, man? You're sitting on a goldmine of a tip, and you're wasting it here so OKC players can read it and figure out our strategy?!!??! ARGGHHHH!!!! Spoiler JK. I'm not even mad, bro.
This is where not having a big who can post up hurts. Ibakas a great help defender but his post defense really isn't that good. All you need to do is a pumpfake and the dude falls for it every. single. time. It's a shame we don't have a big who can expose his post defense
We actually did that several times last night. But most times someone else flied in and blocked or fouled Asik and Smith. When our bigs were fouled, they couldn't make any free throws.
