The movement probably doesn’t look like anything you’ve seen before. The alt right is loosely connected, and mostly online. The white nationalists of the alt right share more in common with European far-right movements than American ones. This is a movement that draws upon relatively obscure political theories like neoreaction or the “Dark Enlightenment,” which reject the premises on which modernity is built, like democracy and egalitarianism. But it’s not all so high-minded as that. Take a glance at the #altright hashtag on Twitter or at The Right Stuff, an online hub of the movement, and you’ll find a penchant for aggressive rhetoric and outright racial and anti-Semitic slurs, often delivered in the arch, ironic tones common to modern internet discourse. Trump is a hero on the alt right and the subject of many adoring memes and tweets.

The lib warriors on this board do it all the time. Except they're worse because they attack the source and the OP.

That's hilarious to me because you guys are just like your counterparts. More similar then each other realizes LOL!!!

Is there any real evidence of this rise being real?

All I see are quotes from someone that wants it to be real (Right Nationalist) and an organization saying they are tracking it (they track all hate groups).

There are no numbers cited, etc.

    Lib warriors lol.

Well, personally I never attack people personally. I also would rather counter the argument made then denying it completely because of "Bias"

    Donald Trump's popularity?

    Nuanced distinction here.
When a right winger on this message board is criticized for a source they cited it's usually because they used a source with inherent bias such as 'Family Research Councel'. Buzzfeed doesn't have an inherent bias but rather the criticism here is about Buzzfeed quality of journalism. Buzzfeed usually isn't taken seriously by any part of the political spectrum.

At the very least, I would read the piece before making an assertion on the quality of the article.

    Winner, winner, chicken dinner

What I find most disturbing about the analysis of why Trump has so many supporters is when they state it's because they are 'fed up with the establishment along with the rampant unemployment and rising healthcare costs along with ISIS coming for their children'.

Yet, 95% of Trump supporters have not been affected by any of those issues. No, its pretty damn obvious why Trump is popular. He propagates a White Nationalist narrative that the blue collar white voter eats up. They love non-nuanced rhetoric that they can easily understand and grasp. They love rhetoric that confirms their predisposed beliefs of minorities.

It sure isn't a coincidence that white nationalist group so strongly support Trump...

I don't know what this alt-right mess is. Sounds like the same thing given a new trendy name.

Just because the article has no validity whatsoever shouldn't prevent us from talking about it as if it is fact right?

Not only talking about it, but also publicly acknowledging your white privilege and creating a safe space for anybody to discuss the buzzfeed article!

    Lol...wat?

Any ways, for people denying it's existence it's really not all that hard to look into. It seems there is only one side here that tries to downplay white racist organizations though so of course it'll just be ignored either way.

So you really didn't read the article? It's really not that hard to find support for Trump from White Nationalist groups.

I'm a lead a horse to water guy. So find out on your own. I've learned posting facts and links to those facts does nothing here. Either you see that it exists or you put your hands on your ears and do your best to live in the imaginary world you've made for yourself.
