Celebrating the big 30th B-day soon, and would like to visit a Steak House. I've been to O'roukes and Pappa Bros., but am thinking about trying Vick and Anthony's or some other one.

    Any recommendations?

What are your favorites and why?

Right now I am a Pappa bros. man

Have you tried Fogo De Chao? All you can eat steaks and meats. They'll keep bringing them. Awesome experience.

As far as steakhouses, I was truly impressed with Vic and Anthony's a couple of weeks ago. Be sure and order the portobello mushroom appetizer.

    I concur with Fatty.

Went to Fogo De Chao this weekend for my birthday. Best meat I've ever had and the best part is, its all you can eat!!!!!

    C&H Steakhouse is also good.

If you are in to wine - Fogo De Chao's selection is amazing. They also have a reasonable corkage fee if you have a bottle of your own you really like.

    The Palm has great lobsters.

That being said, and I will repeat from an earlier thread, that I do not go to steakhouses in Houston. For less money, I can go to Central Market or RIce Epicurean, buy a just as good or better a cut of meat, and cook it myself better than any steakhouse in town.

When I go out to eat, I don't like feeling that I can cook better than the chef in the kitchen. That is why I do not go to steakhouses.

Pretty much $40 a head, not including drinks.

There is something nice about having a "Pancho's" style steakhouse with fantastic food.

I tend to agree. I make a mean steak, myself. The problem is that a lot of my friends like to go out to eat, and my house isn't an option.

    Sullivan's isn't bad, either.

Papa's Bros. huh? I went there a few years ago and a dinner for 2 with basic salad, side, and steak was $100.
Everything was pretty good(but not 100 bucks good), albeit the steaks were a little 'too' thick, which made it tough for them to cook the whole thing(which is good for those rare lovers). To me, nothing beats the price and quality of saltgrass.
More and more people keep talking about Fogo de Chao. I'm going to have to try that place someday.

I sort of agree with this. I find that Central Market usually only has one or two cuts of USDA Prime--usually Rib eyes, while you can always get USDA Prime at a steakhouse. Nevertheless, I've NEVER found a steakhouse that cooks a steak as well as I can. Still, there are a few places out there that do a good job....and they usually have the inside track on the best meat.

Still....I have to mostly agree with RMTEX.........95% of the steaks I eat are at home. And they're all excellent!

Have any of you guys touting Fogo de Chao been there recently? I've heard their quality has taken a nose dive. And what's this about them not giving you water? Is it true they give you a bottled water at seven bucks a pop when you ask for water?

Vic and Anthony's is as good as it gets in H-town IMO.

    Sullivans is also very good.

But none of them hold a candle to Ted's of Beverly Hills owned by the rich and powerful Ted Bell.

Vic and Anthony's is good...C&H Steakhouse (I think that's it) off of 59 near Sugar Land isn't too bad either.

Fogo de Chao was GREAT when I went, though it has been a year and a half since I last went. Aside from the perks mentioned above, they also have one of the best salad bars so you can "cleanse your palate" after you're done clogging your arteries.

For those boasting about your steak cooking abilities, you'd better post some recipes and instructions so the rest of us can test your theories. Otherwise you're all talk.

I think Fogo De Chao is more in the Churrascaria mold of restaurants and can be better compared to America's or Buen Bife.

For steaks, Pappa Bros rocks and I still love the Buttery Ruth's Chris steaks. I really didn't care too much for the steaks at the Palm or the Capital Grille.

I have yet to go to Fleming's, Vic and Anthony's, or Smith and Wollensky's though, all of which are supposed to be superb.

Damn ! I'm getting Hungry now!
