I'm not trolling. I read a headline that said "Houston, you have a problem." It probably got to me because that''s the millionth time I've seen it, which is 999,999 times too many.
But 1) the phrase didn't become popular until the movie came out and 2) it's not an accurate quote, it's a composite of several things said by Swigert, Haise, and Lovell.
Nah, I was celebrating the Rockets second straight championship like everyone else here over the age of 21. It sucks that I was visiting my dad in California at that time and missed out on the celebration at ground zero of it but it was still fun to brag about it there.
The reality was that the first astronaut was Mexican and the quote was "El Yusten, tenemos un problema"
Who cares? At least it's something you can chalk up as a cultural reference to Houston. We don't really have too many. Even if it's "annoying" and the historical accuracy is a bit off it's still something.
It could be worse. We could be known for something like this: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ysmLA5TqbIY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
