Has anyone noticed the cameras at intersections on the traffic lights??? I've noticed them popping up all down Westheimer in The Montrose and other places... what gives? Facial recognition systems? Are we going to have access to these cams like Transtar Cams? Is Houston going to start giving out cam tickets for red light runners?
I saw something on tv, wasn't about houston.. but about the fact that they now have the technolgy needed to do the ticket thing. they take a pic of you before the light, in the intersection and of your plate.. if these are those.. it would be bad news for red light runners because those would be hard to beat
It's the NWO. Somebody call Alex Jones! I think a lot of those cameras are for live traffic shots like the ones on sites like these as well as the shots you see on the traffic reports you see on the news. I could be wrong though.
They have had those in my hometown of Texarkana, TX for a long time now. They say they're to better control the flow of traffic. They essentially make the traffic lights "smart" enough to know when to let who go. So if there are a ton of cars at a red light and no cars going through a green light, it knows to change faster. However, it has been my experience that they don't work very well.
I think it's an invasion of privacy. When I went down and visited my folks in Pasadena, they had one on Crenshaw and Beltway 8. I think it's a load of crap for us who run through the red lights. Glad they don't have it in Dallas....
I notice cameras like the one in the above picture in Richardson. If you're in Garland, they definately have the cameras that take your picture (see intersection of Jupiter & Spring Valley). Hard to miss because they're enormous, and there's a VERY bright flash when somebody runs a red light. There was a little blurb about it on the local news one night.
I think they were put up to look for rockHEAD. YOUR GOING TO JAIL MY BROTHER AND, FOR WHAT, I HAVE NO IDEA. BREAKING THE LAW...BREAKING THE LAW!!! Did anyone see that new technology to where a stop light will turn red if it detects a driver is speeding just to make that person stop(given they don't run the red light). The other light going the other way will not be affected. Maybe their there for the "Candid Camera" show? YOUR ON CANDID CAMERA!!!
They have those here in San Diego, but the simple solution here is to just take your front license plate off since they only take a picture from the front I guess a cop could cite you for that, but at least here it is only a "fix-it" ticket where you pay $10 and show them you put the license plate back on. Alot cheaper than a ticket for running a red
Until the cop down the street decides to be a pain and ticket you for not having a front license plate since both are required by law in Texas.
Anyone seen Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO? This reminds me of the episode where early in the show Larry's wife accuses him of liking big butts, which he totally denies. Later on in the episode he happens to be giving some fat woman a ride and she bends over the front seat trying to reach something in the back with her butt right in Larry's face. At the end of the show his wife checks the mail and opens an envelope containing a ticket for running a red light along with a picture of Larry at the steering wheel with a big fatt butt in his face. That's pure Seinfeld-ian genius! Let that be a lesson to you all!
Those camera's have been around for at least 6 years now. You never notice them while driving down the highway. They're on top of the light posts.
Yeah they are required by law here too, but the ticket is only $10 to get it fixed. I'm assuming TX isn't so lenient?
Some of us are mixing up Transtar's Traffic Cams which are on major freeways and tollways with these new Traffic Light Cams... I still am not completely sure what these street light cams do.
Sorry, but to whine about invasion of privacy when one readily admits to breaking a law which could easily result in people's deaths pisses me off. Of course, he may have been sarcastic. At which, I apologize.
Red light runners suck.. Just the other day I was on my bicycle, stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, I took off, the car coming the other way didn't want to stop for the red light and as I get my foot in the pedal, all I hear is tires screeching only to look to my left and see smoke and a car about five feet from me!! I almost turned around and went back home (it was the start of my ride)...
It's like SCF said, they are designed to detect vehicles on the road waiting at a traffic light, and are supposed to control the lights depending on how many vehicles are waiting and for how long. They're not equipped to take pictures of vehicles running the light, although they have the (probably intended) side effect of deterrence by making people think they do.
