West Nile found inside Loop By ED ASHER Copyright 2002 Houston Chronicle For the first time, a dead bird found inside Loop 610 has tested positive for the West Nile virus. The blue jay was found in Bellaire near Newcastle and Beech streets, Harris County health officials said Tuesday. Previously, all birds that tested positive were found in the county's west and north areas. "It is an indication the West Nile virus is moving south and east," said Sandy Kachur, a spokeswoman for Harris County Public Health Services. Officials have said repeatedly that they expected the virus to spread across the county. The last confirmation brings to 31 the number of birds that have tested positive in the area. No human cases have been reported. "It is probably not unlikely we would see some human cases," at some point, Kachur said. "But we are doing everything possible so that doesn't happen." That includes ground spraying for mosquitoes and monitoring mosquito pools, Kachur said. Aerial spraying is on hold. The virus is spread to humans by mosquitoes, which get it from infected birds. ---- Be careful folks!!!
West Nile is so last year. Seriously, don't worry about the hype. It was here last year and a big stink was made about it. Nothing happened. It went away.
So is it worse now because it's inside the loop? Does that mean they're better than I am because I live outside the loop???
relax my suburban princess... i posted a few weeks ago that it was in harris county, now it's made its way inside the loop.. just tracking it's progress geographically....
I know. I've been keeping track of it along with the news. I just don't know why its such a big deal that it's "inside the loop." They made a big deal because it was in or near Bellaire. I'm glad to know where it is, but it doesn't seem like the media in Houston is focusing on what's important...where it is, not who is affected.
