sheesh. we'd end up with picks 1 and 2 from 2002.

who thinks jay can get his act together? does anyone think he'll ever be the same physically again?

Trade someone for Dunleavy, then we'll own that year's draft.

I'd take a chance with Jay Williams over sticking with Charlie Ward...

I think his act will be together, his game smarter but I have no clue what his physical abilities will level out at. Who could know that at this point?

I think Williams would want a 6th man/starting position if he joins a team.

Don't we have enough guards playing? We already have a 6th man guard in Mike James where will he be?

I hope we sign him. This is exactly the kind of chance we have to take to further build the team, and get younger talent.

I love the team that CD has assembled, but as thacabbage points out, it may get too old before it does its damage.

If we could bring him in, and give him the time he needs to develop behind Sura and James, then he COULD be something really special that's worth waiting for.

Man, our PG lineup will have:

Sura
James
J Will
*Mooch
*Ward

* - Hope we dump these two and grab some quality PFs, SFs, and SGs.

Moochie and Ward will be done in no time since their contracts expire after next year.

I expect Wesley to slow down pretty soon. He's 35, and you just can't expect him to keep guarding the opposing shooting guards that well anymore. Sura is few years younger, so he might be moved to 2.

So, you will be able find an opening spot in the rotation for Jay Williams without too much problem. Also, Williams isn't rich by NBA standard. He got boughtout by the Bulls, but I don't think it was alot of money, since he violated the agreement by riding motorcycles. Therefore, I expect him to come in and gives his all to make it in the league. There will be no expectation for him, so he'll have no pressure from the media and fans, but only himself.

Plus, I expect us to pay him the vet's minimum. Low dollars for a young former #2 pick? That's a no-brainer.

I think we need to look at James as more of a 2 backup. He is one of our best shooters, but not play makers. If we ran plays and gave him spot up jumpers, he would probably rarely miss. Most of his points come from doing it all himself, aka Francis.

Williams would be the long term solution at Point, if he can be the player he was.

The significance of this story has little to do with Jay Williams and everything to do with the Rockets. Houston is the only team he (or the reporter) names. Maybe, finally, we're back to a status where free agents think highly enough of us to come here for a little less money or long-term security than they might get elsewhere. We will definitely need that cachet as our old guys get older and we have to replace them.

Wesley and Barry is getting old - Sura is injured and James is a great scorer.

I have been hoping for a while that we would look at J Will - since he was a good shooter in college

apparently JVG, Tmac and/or Yao all like these ball handing, quick shooting guard/point guard types (

so he would fit right in here (if he can play)

He doesn't need time to develop. He already is better than James and Sura. The guy is a top NBA pont guard if he gets himself in pre-accident shape

mike james is not big enough to play the 2. It'll be hard to land jay williams though. Even if we do, he probably wont be a starter material until after the all star, if he can improve his game that much.

Maybe down the line, Sura slides to the 2 and James/Williams control the point?

I dunno, just speculating. It's not like we're SERIOUSLY talking about signing the guy at the moment.

I remember him mentioning Houston as one of his favored teams a while ago.

But I say give him a shot. Obviously, it all depends on how well he rehabilitates. But we all know how he played in college and he played well w/ the Bulls when he played.

Does anyone have any idea if he is planning a comeback next season or the season after next?
