http://www.click2houston.com/news/W...4946/-/format/rsss_2.0/-/b7x7kbz/-/index.html HOUSTON - A Houston waiter refused to serve a customer who made a rude comment about a child in the restaurant. Michael Garcia is a waiter at Laurenzo's Restaurant, 4412 Washington. He said his regular customers are like family, especially 5-year-old Milo Castillo and his parents. "Normally when they arrive, I pick him up at the door and carry him to the table," Garcia said. Milo was born with Down syndrome. On Wednesday, Garcia said another diner moved him family away from Milo's table and made a comment about the boy. "I heard the man say, 'Special needs children need to be special somewhere else," Garcia said. Garcia said he then confronted the customer. "My personal feelings took over and I told him, 'I'm not going to be able to serve you, sir,'" Garcia said. "He said, 'If you're not going to be able to serve us, then we'll leave.' Then I told him, 'How could you say that? How could you say that about a beautiful 5-year-old angel?'" The man and his family left. Milo's parents said they didn't know about what happened until another waiter told them about it. "I was really impressed that Michael would stand up for Milo," said Kim Castillo. "He really doesn't know us … he stood up for Milo just because it was the right thing to do." Castillo said she was worried that Garcia might lose his job, but the restaurant stood behind his decision. The story hit blogs and Garcia said he's been overwhelmed with comments from friends, family and strangers praising him for standing up for Milo.
good people will get good business...its how it works... That jerk and his family is gonna be found and publicly scorned...
I would NEVER made fun of a special needs person. HOWEVER, our current President did this on national TV on the Leno show. So he obviously wouldn't be welcomed in this restaurant. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/8eg3Ugi3WtM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Making fun of special needs kids is about as low as you can get. Disgusting.
Of course, Bigtexxx makes everything political. Are you even a Rockets fan or are you just here to be the resident rightwinger?
Rude ass customers get no business, seems fine to me... They should hire this guy to put some authority in the mix. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QhJzqH5INXc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
but then he can get fired and probably no story in the paper (I bet hes getting tons of special needs ass right now). No way the waiter gets fired if he denies them service.
I work as a server too and I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to mouth off to ignorant and rude customers. Never have though, so mucho props to this guy.
Congrats Click2Houston! You got the story two weeks after small inner loop papers. Anyways, good to see. I'd hate to not go there any longer. Best Prime Rib in Houston, by far.
People can be dicks. I always make sure to over tip. Like I never had service where it was bad enough to complain. Every time I go eat with my friends they're always complaining about something. It's so embarrassing. As long as its edible, I'm good.
Yeah, it's because waiters have to deal with scum like this every day that I always end up tipping 25 - 30% if the service is at least decent.
My father in-law got so bad at this that my wife and I finally just refused to go out to eat with him. His wife gave him a talking to about it and he's been much better, but it will still come out every once in a while.
