Game 7 against Seattle in the 1997 playoffs. That was a sweet win since we finally beat Seattle in the playoffs. I was at that game and that was a great one. Just too bad we ended up losing to Utah in the Western Conf finals because I really do believe we could have beaten the Bulls. They never got a chance to play a team in the finals that had a dominating center. ------------------ Rockets Season Ticket Holder
Thanks for posting this.... Watching it now in the fourth quarter and I remember it like it was yesterday. Man the Summit was rocking... that year was so special for me. First season for Charles Barkley, Maloney's rookie season, Elie's best year, first full season I ran ClutchCity.net, then called Clutch City '97.... just so many memories. You can still read my recap to this game: Rockets 96, Sonics 91: Rockets win series 4-3 ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Didn't Seattle sweep us the year before that? Because I remember the Rockets were down by like 20pts in the fourth in game four and they forced overtime only to lose ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
LilFrancis, Yeah it was the year before. That's why we hated Seattle so much. They swept us out the year after we won the championships. The summer after that sweep we went out and got Barkley, and then beat Seattle in the game being discussed in this thread. That was a great game-- the game 4 where we were down 20 in the 4th. Even though we lost, you could see the true heart of a champion in that game. They never gave up, but just ran out of energy in overtime. If we had found a way to win, that Cassell 3 with 4 seconds left would've definitely gone on my list a few days back of the greatest moments in Rockets history. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." The thing I most rememner is thinking "wow" that Mmaloney guy looks pretty good! And then, all through the Utah series thinking "s$it...that Maloney guy is crap!" Still pains me we didn't get a shot at the Bulls that year. For me, I felt like a title in 97 over the Bulls would have been like winning the whole decade and finally getiing recognition. ------------------

I remember thinking that Maloney guy is so freaking slow...... He seems to get slower every time I watch that game. ------------------
I think the biggest key to us losing that game was Schrempf fouling Horry out late in the 4th. I mead Rob was just on fire towards the end of that game. He was the real reson we even came back at all. Clutch, I remember that '97 article. Man, and I thought thought you went crazy with the bolds and italics now. I'd forgotten about back in the day! ------------------ The season's halfway over...and I still need that keg of Pepto-Bismol.
That game seven win was the best Rocket game ever, for me. I remember arguing with Seattle fans constantly, when we knew there was going to be a game seven. I remember there was a LOT of hype for the Sonics. They had a particular song playing on the Radio all the time: "Who's the Kings of the west side? SUPER SON-NICS". People were constantly calling the stations and talking about how badly the Sonics were going to beat the Rockets. When they beat Seattle, I turned on the radio to hear the words from a disappointed fan: "Charles Barkley is a Dumbass!" What a great feeling that was. Too bad they had to go and lose to the bloody awful Jazz. How could they choke a 13 point lead?! ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Sadly that was Kemp's last game as a Sonic. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
