I work in Channelview near I-10 and 8 on the east side of town. After work (5 pm) I have to drive to my friend's place who lives off Westheimer and 8 on the exact opposite side of the city. Normally I would just take I-10 west across the city and the take the beltway to Westheimer, but I've never done it during rush hour, and I know I-10 is supposed to hell once you get west of downtown. Would I be better off taking my normal route, or maybe just taking the beltway the entire way? Maybe some alternative I don't know of?
I really don't know the city too well since I live in the 'burbs. How owuld I get there? I'm looking at a map, and it looks like I'd take 10 west to 59 south, then take that to Westpark?
coming from Channelview, you are kind of screwed whichever way you go. if you take i-10 into 59S past MMP, then traffic is down to two lanes because of contruction obviously, i-10 w to BW8 west is a nightmare you might actually want to take i10 w to 610 loop S, past the Dome then back up to 59 where you can get on the Westpark tollway seems like a long loop, but i actually did this this morning to get from the ship channel to my office on the SW Freeway and it only took 30 mins during rush hour
i take i-10 west to bw west everyday around 4:30 and it's not that bad, about 20 minutes. it's the other direction that seems to be worse. the problem really is that with so many cars and so much construction EVERYWHERE you never know whats going to happen.
610 S is not bad at all. Of course, this morning, a contruction area popped up right past 225 to 45S ....but it wasn't too bad.
