I don't know if this was already discussed, but we had a stabbing here in NYC of a Houston tourist named Chi McCarthy. All I was thinking when I read this was "I wonder if he's a ClutchFans member" :(

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

I don't even know where to begin with this assertion. I'll bet they conducted their "admittingly unscientific" research in Times Square and only used tourists for the survey. With the possible exception of Boston, I've never experienced such rudeness anywhere else that even comes close to how New Yorkers act.

this happened last wednesday, a felon from Boston came to NYC and went on a 12 hour stabbing spree...

it started on the downtown "C" train, he lunged at Houstonian Chris McCarthy and jumped off the train before the crowd realized he had stabbed the tourist, McCarthy islucky to be alive...

the alleged stabber then stabbed another man on a subway platform , then he got in an altercation with a deli worker, and his crime spree ended at 4AM in the middle of Times Square, he stabbed two tourists from Canada and the bystanders cornered him until the police came...

the Houstonian was invited by the NYPD and the Mayor of NYC to return at his own convenience and he would be given a personal tour of the sites he missed... the doctors say he is lucky to be alive, as his ventricle was nicked in the incident... he remains in positive spirits, has no ill will towards NYC or his stabber...

in my opinion, the stabber was looking for tourists or people who looked out of their element... the news reoprts say he came to NYC to specifically hurt/rob someone...

The folks in NY are no ruder then say Philadelphia or St. Louis. They may be vocally louder, but not ruder. I find the aloofness of Californians more annoying then the rudeness of New Yorkers.

I lived in London and New York. Neither place had rude people at all from who I met. Even France was better than expected.

Of course, I could have been the a**hole to them.

    See what I mean!!!

lower case....mispelled...and followed by a happy face!

    It's a kinder, gentler rudeness.

    buncha softies...

New Yorkers are rude and abusive? I don't know how the study rates the New York as being one of the friendliest places in the world. Like someone mentioned above, it was probably because they did the study in Times Square or other tourist traps. Anyone living here for a long time knows this is NOT true. I would say Boston, New York, and Philadelphia are the rudest places in the country. On the other hand, people from the Midwest and South are incredibly warm and friendly, and the complete opposite from people from the Northeast.

I would also agree with Moscow and some parts of Eastern Europe as being the rudest in Europe. There is a lot of anti-foreign sentiment in those places, and the people there having been raised in a communist society do not have the politeness and etiquette that parts of Western Europe possess.

I also want to comment about Hong-Kong and Mumbai India being on the list of the rudest countries on Earth, which I completely disagree with. I know from personal experience that this is not TRUE. I think Westerners mistake the differences in culture and attribute it to rudeness.

Also, Asian culture is different from Western culture in that it is acceptable to push and not hold a door for someone, unlike in the West. I find that Asians along with native Africans are some of the nicest and friendliest people on Earth.
